Don't You Want a Friend of Animals Like Rep. Dave Reichert to Represent You in Congress?
The general election is only days away, on November 4th, and advocates of animal protection need to know who is standing up for their interests in Congress. The Humane Society Legislative Fund is the non-partisan political arm of the humane movement, and we want you to know that U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert is fighting for animal welfare in a very determined way.
The Humane Society Legislative Fund strongly endorses Dave Reichert for Congress, and we urge you to cast your vote for him on November 4th if you are concerned about the humane treatment of animals.
Here are just of few of the actions that Rep. Reichert has taken to help animals:
• Pets in Disasters: He voted for the Pets Evacuation and Transportation Standards (PETS) Act, which was signed into law in 2006 and now requires that pets and service animals are included in disaster plans.
• Animal Fighting: He is a co-sponsor of and voted for the Animal Fighting Enforcement Prohibition Act to strengthen the penalties for illegal dogfighting and cockfighting, making it a felony to transport animals across state lines for these gruesome and barbaric fights.
• Horse Slaughter: He is a co-sponsor of and voted for the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act to end the slaughter of tens of thousands of American horses for food exports to France, Belgium, and other countries.
• Fur Labeling: He is a co-sponsor of the Dog and Cat Fur Prohibition Enforcement Act to outlaw the sale of fur from raccoon dogs and require accurate labeling of all fur-trimmed garments.
• Downed Animals: He is a co-sponsor of the Downed Animal and Food Safety Act to protect our food supply from "mad cow disease" by stopping the abuse of sick and injured cattle.
