I wish I had marestare. The stall is 1000 ft from the house, so the last 3 mights in a row I've had to drive down every hour...I'm a zombie...the lady said she's due around march 15th...so let's have this baby already! but, it is going to snow on sunday, so maybe she's holding it in.

Lily finally went into labor today, but the foal came out stillborn and deformed. The vet is on his way. RIP poor baby. Horrible morning.

Last night Lily passed at 2am. We were giving her shots every 2 hours, but she never did get up. I've never lost a horse before...I'm so sad we lost them both...but at least I have Lotus and her beautiful filly and they are doing well.

So sorry to hear, poor girl, you gave her a chance and at least made her feel loved and cared for, that was very very kind. Really sorry for the hardship of the loss.

thank you. It is hard. We did everything we could. She was 5 weeks overdue and just couldn't pass the baby. The cord was severed and the baby never had a chance. She was slamming herself down on the ground...it was horrible. Then she couldn't get up, she had nerve damage in her back, when the vet left, he gave her a 24hr or put her down...but we gave her shots and brought her bucket after bucket of water, she could get her head up to drink and did eat a couple flakes, but she lost her will and was in so much pain...she was just laying there with her toungue hanging out and her legs stiff from struggling...it's just heartwrenching ...but at least we gave her love every minute while she was here.

Cynthia, what a horrible thing for you to go through. My heart goes out to you and that poor mare. I am grateful she was with you and not someone who wouldn't have known what to do and possibly allowed her to suffer. She and the babe are in a better place now. Thank you for giving her the best of care and tons of love. Take care.

So sorry you had to go through that. We always assume deliveries will be easy, no problems. A good reminder that issues will always be possible. I'm glad you still have a fun one to care for and enjoy.

OMG Cynthia, I'm just in shock... I'm so sorry, we had a mare do that throwing themselves down thing 4 years ago, it was heartwrenching to say the least. Our mare didn't get up for hours either, but she was the lucky one and did get up. her foal died. also malformed. It was heartbreaking.
I am glad she knew love to the end.... I'll find the poem I'm hoping to share with you and post later...

Lily needed to go to comfort her baby. I'm so sorry Cynthia, for the anxiety you went through. But Lily probably had the best care in her life these past few months, so we can be thankful for that.

Cynthia, I'm sorry to learn you lost both Lily and her baby. Like Piopico said, Lily needed to comfort her baby and they are now together. I can't imagine the sadness and grief you must be experiencing, my heart goes out to you.
Hugs,
~Jen

Cynthia, I too am sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how hard this double loss must have been (and continue to be) for you. I know it is probably little comfort to you, but please remind yourself that you did save her life, and you gave her love and happiness that she wouldn't have known otherwise.
I hope time will help lessen the pain and you'll just be left with the happy memories of your time with Lily.
Hope

Thank you all so much for your kind words. They mean so much and have really helped me. We buried her that morning, it's still hard to believe they are both gone.
