So my sister has had a sore throat, fever, etc., so she went to the doc. They did a culture for strep throat and sure enough, she has strep - only it is strep c! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streptococcus#Group_CI don't know if it's S. equi or S. zooepidemicus. None of her horses have strangles, so it's probably not S. equi. Weird though, huh?

really weird, since most labs don't even do a specific typing for strep... not a throat culture, they do a wet plate, and if it grows the strep, they call it positive without further 'adu' that is yukky to think you might have s equi!

Does she have a sick dog or puppy? I am fairly certain a friend of mine had a puppy that came down with strangles. And I think he said his kids had to be careful not to handle the puppy till it was well.

She has cows and chickens. Probably got the S. zooepidemicus from the cows.
mta: I'll ask her why they did the specific type testing
