;D FattButt got her feet trimmed! ;D
That may not sound exciting to some but in the 6+ years I have owned her this was her third trim (the second one was her fronts only) and both times were done with drugs.
See before we went to Lifesavers.. she did not let people hold her feet, (not even me) and people who wear dead cows where not allowed to touch her, at all. Not one finger got within 6 inches of her hide!
Thanks to Angi and Chris she has learned a lot of stuff since then, even to let me hold her feet. If shes a good girl, she gets her teats rubbed as a reward
In Hesperia she had a decent sized yard that was firm, and rocky enough that she self trimmed for 4 years. Since we moved she has not been keeping up with the growth and actually needed one.
She gave me all for feet pretty well, but did have a few oh no moments for Jamie Osbrink (The best farrier in the world!) Jamie says since she had been trimmed drugged that it's normal for them to fight it a bit, scared because they remember being trimmed and being unable to react or fight because of the drugs. She did pretty well. He said she is super smart, definately a lead mare. At one point she managed to rapped him in the knee, and he said it was carefully aimed and totally on purpose.. but after that she was really good (as if she had made her point) She put all for feet on the stand and got the full treatment. He said as smart as she is next time will be no trouble.
LOL Tryst watched the whole thing with great interest at times, as she needs to be done when he comes back I hope she learned only the good things. She picks up all for feet for us, not sure what she will think about files and nippers though.
Dyna, Zoe (Beths Mustang Challenge Yearling), and baby DeeDee all got trimmed too but they did them before I got home. They say they had fun playing with Zoe and had her jumping over barrels after her trim. (She LOVES to jump things)
dandy was picking up his rasp and file by the handle and carrying them around. Dyna tried to eat his hoof jack, and I am told demanded to have her feet done first; which TOTALLY sounds like Dyna.. She wants whatever attention, or things like flymasks, blankets, and so on. I swear she has no idea she is a mustang most days.
Hmm and it seems my Mustang Challenge yearling Sera (September Serenade) may not be a Jackson Mountain BLM mustang. When they gathered Jackson Mountain in an emergency gather (not enough water, followed by a salmonella outbreak, both of which she survived. ) They found 700 more horses then they had estimated and 400 Sheldon mustangs were missing. They had recently repaired fences between the two ranges, and may have trapped the missing Sheldon mustangs on the wrong side of the fence. She's a really bold interesting filly. LOVES to play on water, and always walks away from the tub with a mouthful of water.
