I am here to say the South Beach Diet WORKS-I did it years ago-started July 1st 2004 and by Feb 2005 I had lost about 60 pounds and my triglycerides went from 222 to 42 bad cholestoral way down and good cholesterol up. OK OK so lately I have been baking up a storm and eating everything in sight and NEED to get back on track.

All right I will get started on it! I will need to pull my south beach book out I'm having a hard time deciding what I want to do. I had lost 70 lbs with weight watchers a few years ago but have gained it all back

I was using the "Biggest Loser" cookbook and from November 2006 to January 2007 I lost 11 pounds. This is a GREAT book for singles/busy people as the recipes are directed at 1 to 2 servings. I felt great while on it but stopped cooking. Need to get back to....something! LOL

I did it with the help of their website last time-but that is $65 bucks (for 13 weeks) but right now I look at things differently-like HOW MUCH GRAIN would that be for $65 bucks. There are some sites that are free-one is a recipe site started by the SBD 'century club" (people that lost at least 100 pounds) and another that has adds all over but is free-started by 3 southern sisters that didn't realize (at first) that others would come across thier site-so they named it tounge in cheek www.3fatchicks.com www.southbeachcenturyclub.com

I'll be joining you over there; what a great idea, figi! I won't be doing South Beach as I'm a vegan and it is so heavy on animal products, but the support alone will be worth a fortune!

I just ate a taco delmar mandito borrito for lunch. Hey we need to get some easy 1 to 2 person meals with shopping list because this is what gets me. I'm in the store and walking the isles wandering what should I buy that will be easy to make up and healthy usually the quick no so healthy wins out...

OK so a couple things here-Penny-you are too funny-and umm I have been far too in love with my own cooking lately to still be a size 8-I am back up into the 10-12's and NEED TO STOP NOW!!! LISA STEP AWAY FROM THE KITCHEN!! I make cookies all the time for my husband's students-both the drama class and the Knowledgebowl teams-(OT-but BTW we won today PHS 91/ Stadium 25 /and Fife 21 final scores of the first Knowledgebowl meet.)
Actually last year at the big orange box we had a 'biggest loser' contest where we had to team up with someone-so I buddied up with an old high school friend who is a vegetarian and I brought his lunches cause his wife is about as big as you and me and the next person all rolled up in one-wouldn't know how to prepare anything healthy even tho they are vegetairian. I went 6 years as a veg before too-so I had no problem converting a lot of the SBD recipes-BUT-I also still ate eggs and dairy-so if you are vegan Greatful-I wouldn't know how to help ya there, sorry. I DO tend to make a big pot of something healthy and have that ready to go when the munchies strike or spend one afternoon prepping veggies/snacks/legal desserts then it is just easier to be good.

Wow Lisa you are a wealth of info!!!! I love the 3 fat chicks site I could spend all day on it. I made myself sick this morning by taking my meds on an empty tummy I was tempted to eat something to help but did not. I'm trying to be honest with myself and not cheat.

NOT eating is NOT good-esp when taking meds-your body will go into "starvation mode" and hang onto every ounce if it thinks you are starving. One thing I loved about the SBD is you are NEVER hungry and no limits on the good stuff. You are supposed to eat certain portions-ie; 4 1/2 cups of vegetables daily(half cup at least at breakfast), so many protien portions and snacks-you gotta balance out your blood sugar-otherwise you spike and crash and get tired and it is a downward spiral into being grumpy, tired, and still overweight. I am sure there are other healthy plans out there that work-I just know that one-and HATE the Atkins diet-my dad and uncle did that one and lose weight but it is SO UNHEALTHY-OMG any diet that makes your body go into a funky chemical reaction and requires that taking of vitamins to make up for absolute lack of balance-eeek! SBD-basics-very close to the 'new' food pyramid. whole grains, lots of veggies, lean meats the right fats. etc.

Definately interested in joining up I have lost about 45 lbs in the past year, however since my little Arabian is only about 13.3 and just dainty as can be, I could probably stand to take off a few more. Count me in!!!
