Just thought I'd let you all know that I found Dark Destiny on the Serenity Rescue website (www.serenityequinerescue.com) yesterday. She is being rehabbed for malnutrition and will have her hernia surgery. Then she will be up for adoption.
It breaks my heart to see her in this condition. She's down in the back pasterns, her tummy is huge, and her hernia looks to be much worse than in her foal pictures. She is quite small due to malnutrition issues.
So, sorry, little one. There were several people who tried to help you before. This website and the people connected to it seem to be doing good work. You now have a 2nd chance at life.
I hope the little gal responsible for putting two foals into this condition has learned her lesson and will not try to own horses that she cannot afford to take care of. This is so sad.

Thank you for the update on this little one. I can't believe she refused my help...poor little filly did not deserve that. I'm glad she's/ finally in good hands but Jeez, This could have been avoided!!! I've been wondering how she is doing. How sad.

Ok - Very rarely do I voice opinions one way or another on things- BUT, in this case, I honestly believe that Jen needs to be prosecuted for the neglect and obvious abuse of this baby(and the other one). Whether or not she wanted teh best, even a neglegent person can see the horrific condition that this poor kid is in - and should have accepted help when offered HUNDREDS of times. Because of her own need for attention she has most likely cost this poor baby a future of soundness and health. IMO - this is a clasic example of something animal control needs to prosecute. She should NEVER be alloud to own horses - for obvious reasons.

Oh yes, she was on this board, and took on a rescued 'real' orphan, well a man made one from the mother being sent to slaughter... anyway, she was in over her head then... and as everyone TRIED desperately to help her see that, she announced gleefully that she had gone to ANOTHER auction, and found a mare who had been bought with a newborn foal.. and the new owner didn't want the foal to keep, so she was 'able to talk her into' selling her to this idiot... so her first orphan would have a 'playmate'! Can you even believe that?
well, very VERY quicky the first orphan nearly died... from malnutrition and inadequate care, and Shawna swooped in and saved him...
and the idiot came here for 'support' with her other foal who was deteriorating as well,
for a time the baby went to PEC, and was doing pretty well, but the owner apparently swooped in overnight and took her under the cover of darkness...
and proceeded (it appears) to completely starve her into near death,
in addition, those hinds that were down a bit are now WAY down,
those knees that were over are STILL over and never treated,
and... that hernia is now HUGE... which was moderate...
and that belly... OMG. What CAN you say??? did she even know about worming? and malnutrition? that looks like Kwashiokor in African Children!!!!
I wonder what the hell she fed her? if anything.
it certainly was not foal lac/goats milk, good grass/alfalfa mix hay with the addition of a protien suppliment and mineral suppliment like we ALL suggested!!!
it is horrific to see what this poor filly has endured over that witch 'making' her an orphan!
the original owner was going to just raise then sell her as a weanling, and she'd be a 600 lb beefy weanling now if that had happened.... Not this poor creature.
I'm sorry, but this just pisses me off in a deep way
we have her threads here and someone up there needs to call the AC and report this... she has kids, and other animals. God knows what she is doing to them

I agree 100%! If this is not a case that needs to be pursued and prosecuted than I don't know what is. Absolutely unacceptable and disgusting! It makes my heart hurt to see her like this now and sick to remember all the help and advice she was offered and that was ignored
Thanks Caly, for bringing that up. I think so many people think it would be "cute" to have a baby. Most, I know that I don't, don't have a clue how much work it is.

Destiny WAS at my place for a short time. She nursed from my mare and was seen twice by Dr. Emig. She was seen twice prior to that at Jens house as I was there for the initial visit and paid for her first call. Dr. Emig at that time recommended she get a nurse mare or goat. He made several calls while he was there, found her a mare, but she did not want to pay for it. She did not do either. She later decided after she was being evicted to bring her to my place. Dr. Emig would not see her at Jens as she never paid the bill. She was doing fine. Dr. Emig had measured her for her umbilical clamp for surgery. I told Jen I would pay for it but she needed to pay me for her medical before she took her. I told her I would not charge her anything for care or board. I got a call that someone was running the horses in the pasture. Well, Jen had gone in and just taken her. She did NOT look like that when she left. I do not know why she has not had surgery on her hernia. It should have been done months ago! This photo was taken TWO days before Jen took her!  |

Yes, I remember you posted pics of her with Rocha and was doing better, then you posted Jen just took her without notice.
I'm not surprised Dr Emig refused to see her - beyond the money it seems she was misrepresenting what he was saying.
I wonder how the rescue got her - if she turned her over or if the filly was impounded by AC. Poor baby.

Does anyone have an update on Destiny is doing now? She's upright in those hind legs at Dean's place. Lucky Fred was down in his back pasterns when Shawna got him back and he's turned out OK. But, then, he got help immediately as he was going into seizures (as I remember). I hope little Destiny isn't too far gone and that hernia can be repaired at this stage and with good nutrition she can regain an upright stance on those legs.

As Atticus said, I remember too when she was posting nonsense on the old cber board and when she was declined for adoption. I did bring that up when she came back to RO board with the baby in relation to Shawna's rescue, but was told she was being helped and the foal was being monitored. I remember many of her old postings that were extremely questionable in relationship to her knowledge and ability, as well as needing mental help. I am very sorry the two little babies had to suffer due to her incompetence, but thanks to all the people who kept trying to locate and look out for them until they were saved. She should not be allowed to own animals of any kind IMO.

Yes H I agree.. Maybe Jen lied to them? We have posts somewhere from Dean saying Jen had taken Destiny months ago, and perhaps they do not know what happened to Lucky. Maybe they do not know that Jen is the one that made that filly an orphan to begin with? If they do know and still leave that on their site then it seems that they like to play politics more then they really want "justice" for horses, because that lady is a dead horse waiting to happen. |

well, if they wish to acknowledge it, they can come and see for real here.
I wrote Patricia and let her know some of the story and invited her here to see for herself in the old posts.
My understanding is that they are just 'boarding' and 'helping' Jen, but that Jen still owns her and will be taking her BACK.
I hope someone local will step up and make that AC call...
we all agree she is a sick minded woman who never needs to own and torture another animal.

I hope that Serenity documented the condition of this poor filly and can get law enforcement involved. Sounds like they were lied to. I read their site and they are blaming the WRONG person. They need to take ownership of this baby and NEVER, EVER let her go back to Jen. It sounds like Sara (cutiepiepmu) and Beth ( pnp4kidz ) had a lot of conversations with Jen. Do you have old PM's and emails? Could you send those along to Patricia at Serenity as evidence of the harm Jen has done this baby? We could send copies of the threads from here along also. I don't want to inundate this woman with redundant information, so if someone is already on this, please speak up. It would be another TRAGEDY if this filly went back to her abuser after rehab!!!! |

Serenity Rescue took this poor baby after Jen told them I did this to her. They then contacted AC to try and yet go after me again. When that didn't work they decided to give the filly back to Jen although she is still at Serenity.
If you ask me politics have no place in horse rescue.
