Sally and I were asked if we would provide Ivy with a safe, loving, and permanent home by Dean. At that time, I had no idea who Ivy was except for the beautiful TB in the photos with Ivan that Dean sent in order to promote the 2007 Rescues Only Camp-Out. I thought Ivy was Dean's special mare and always thought of her as Ivan's girlfriend; they seem so content together. I was well aware of the CCG nightmare, but only knew Chavez and Iris by name as horses involved in that nightmare. I have since learned not who Ivy is - she is still Ivy to me - but of her past. This makes her no or less "acceptable" or "welcome" here as a family member.
We are an animal sanctuary. When Ashley (Hytyme Ashley) needed to find a home for the sad, whiny pygora goat (now Tiny Timmy Lou-Who) whose owners left him behind when they moved to New York, we were there. When Heidi (halfwayhome) called after literally PULLING a bilaterally blind mare (Lady Officer Florence Abril of the Nightingales - Flo) off the slaughter truck (yes, weighed, tagged, and loaded), we welcomed her with open (and loud) arms. When Bridget (earlybp) needed to find a home for her 10 Indian Runner ducks (you don't want all their names) two years ago in February or either they were headless horsemen by midnight on a Friday or Bridget and her family were evicted and homeless, we arranged a very conspicuous duck exchange at the I-5 Corvallis off-ramp. We are a safe, well-educated, loving, full-care family and business. When Dean asked for Ivy to spend her days here, I imagine her intention was for Ivy's happiness. I imagine my 40 years of experience assisting my father in veterinary medicine doesn't hurt.

In addition, in all our free time (yes, tongue painfully embedded in cheek) we are just starting a blog and will, in time, have pages for each and every animal living at Tired Dog Ranch: 0093dad.netsolhost.com/site/. Be patient with us; we are still on dial-up and were given little hope of anything more just recently. But in time, you will learn that I found Phileas Max[imus]' (Oscar/CBER) original BLM adopter while watching Animal Planet's "Untamed and Uncut" with my family, explaining his extreme fear. We found Blue Jean's (Shania/CBER) original BLM adoptive family of 20 years who had no idea she ended up nearly going to slaughter. They came all the way from Idaho to visit her and bought back Blue Jean's pasturemate of 20 years in fear she would end up in the same place. You will be able to check on all the lovely creatures you came to love years ago, but due to all the forum changes and lost threads have possibly lost track of.
I will not join additional forums in order to answer questions or post updates. If anyone is interested in Ivy's life, you can visit our blog. At this time, Ivy has not yet arrived at Tired Dog Ranch nor have I seen her in person. As soon as she is here and after I have spent adequate time settling her in, I will update her status on this thread. When the well-endowed broad exercises her vocal cords, you will know. (I'm not talking about Ivy or Sally, but the fat lady who sings ...)
My family feels blessed to be welcoming such a beautiful, forgiving, amazing creature to our family. She will receive everything good life has to give and will find the healing, caring, safe environment that allows her to grow into a mentally, emotionally, and physically healthy mare. She will be honored and loved for who she is - not what was done to her. She is a survivor and is here to teach us and help heal others, I believe.
