Hey everyone,
These pics i find interesting as always. I love horse sales, but they sadden me that i don't have the needs to take care of anymore horses right now. This is pretty long , so prepare yourselves.
I went to my local horse sale 2 days ago, i got there a little late so i came just as they started running the horses threw.
Alot of these horses were nice riding horses. It's a small sale, in Lansing Kansas. So i cannot be sure if KB's attend, although its a possibility, seeing as i dont know who else would take the bucking-stock babies or run down horses.
A 500 number took home alot of the riding horses. Maybe a broker? No horse sold for over $400, and the first few horses that rode in could easily been sold for a coupls 1000's given they werent taken to this auction.
This was a curly pony, really beautiful, i checked his teeth and he seemed to be relatvely young, his back feet were 10 different kinds of messed up. VERY overgrown - almost the famous "elf slipper " look. a child rode him threw the ring, i was surpised to could even walk but he did. well trained- sold for $20. I would have taken him in a heartbeat but my father says no more horses, even though space is available.
Belgian Mares- biggest horses ive ever been close to, these girls were enormous. Both bred by mules. Both rode/drove-highest big got was $350 for the team- no sale.
Single Bred Belgian Mare- ridden&driven. gave carriage rides in the city- sold for $325.
This i found a little strange, im not sure what these people did with this poor little thing as it was never sent in the ring. He was a VERY mini mule/donkey (couldnt tell which) and was in a dog cage in the back of someone truck. although the little thing was tiny it couldnt even turn around.
Bucking babies - went to unkown- possibly KB
Donkey - sold for $20
2 ENORMOUSLY obese miniatures.
broke to ride. their necks were extremely crested.
and you could probably flatter a penny between their
rumps.
Grey Arabian Mare- ran threw.
Beautiful blue roan mare - ran threw
Grey/white paint mare- rode great- sold to 500
paint mare, was 4h horse but was nervous and came threw the ring rearing up, had to be lead around. sold to 500
TB gelding. very tall - they said he ran down in Eureka Springs and could be raced again. REg. in Jockey Club. Sold $250
Beautiful all white appy stud. Papered, 100% color producer. Homozygous (sp?) sold to a group of mexican men sitting behind us, i really like this guy. i hope they treat him well, but thats up for discussion - sold for $300.
Arabian mare
Mare and foal - no sale on both. Man wanted more than what was offered.
White QH. trail broke
Not sure about this guy, unbroke stud i t hink.
Black & white paint mare - kid broke. Blue eyes. $275

i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk125/jccolaw/brokelef.jpg[/IMG] A guy my boyfriend knows owned this horse with the crooked leg, apparently he got tangled in wire and it never healed right. no kidding?! we wanted a private sale - but he was greedy and needed racing parts for his truck so im afraid this sweet horse went to the KB.
This little paint was very inquisitive, another i really needed!
Llamas are sold too.
Skinny mare. ( my wishlist )
QH broodmares. Purple halter is blind.
Skinny arab babies
AND here is the long story i had written when this whole ordeal happened with this skinny horse. If you care to read.. here's the story...
Read this all, its very long, and very sad. I watched the whole thing happen.. and it tears at the heart. It leaves me, to say the least, with a hole in my heart- and a bigger longing to help save the companions that need us.
Tonight i attended my local horse sale. Many gorgeous, well bred horses were in tonight, but while i was walking around i saw more horses brought in. Excited to see the new comers, i hurried past the others pens and in the back i saw the first one, surrounded by people. He was a large black TB, skinny and had scrapes all over his body, my heart literally almost failed when i saw his back leg.. it was badly broken. Still now, thinking about what i saw brings tears to my eyes as it did earlier this night. I have never.. never seen anything like it. The owner of Cambells Sale Barn, told the Mexican man who brought it in (who hardly spoke english i might add) that he would not let him sell his horse, and he needed to take the TB and the little 2 year old filly he brought in outside and take them somewhere else. (they were in that bad of condition) He would not even let them in any of the pens. The 2 year old filly was scarred all over her body, her face, her sides, her rump... she had scraggly long hair hanging off her underside that was caked with mud, a large open sore on her rump, that clearly had been left to heal on its own and the saddest thing- she was so starved looking it took alot to not bust out bawling. She was incredibly skinny, of course from lack of food an care. I was standing by the pen as the Mexican man untied the big TB and walked him out.. this is the part where i broke down, when he walked his leg that was broke, was not supported by his hoof, but by the back of where his coronet is- and every time he took a step the back cannon bone would bend in half a little and you could clearly see it all, as it was an open break. im still just.. i cant even explain how horrible it looked.
He tied him outside to his bumper pull (if you could call a carboard box w/ wheels a trailer) the trailer looked like it would not hold a 100 pound person, and i would not trust it to pull a 1000 pound horse anyday. He went back in to get the filly and brought it out and was talking to a nice older lady (that me and my boyfriend do some work for) and she said she would take the little horse. (( she later told me, she had to take her, b/c the broken filly just looked at her in the eyes as if saying something to her and she knew right then that she had to save her )) Mrs. Lundy (the lady) didnt bring her trailer, as she usually just goes to buy blankets and halters, etc. so we put the filly in a spare trailer off to the side. I sat with her for awhile while mrs. lundy went home to get her trailer and fed her some clover. I have never felt so good about something as i did, just feeding her little bits of food. I could really tell she was so grateful and followed me around asking for more. Later, some sheriffs pulled up to the sale and were talking to the Mexican man, turns out the horses werent his but he was "getting rid" of them for someone else. The deputies had the horse hauled off w/ the man to go have the poor old soul "put down" which i (sad to say) was grateful for. No horse deserves to be put threw something like that. No one should have brought a horse to a sale in a condition like that, and should have had medical attention as soon as it happened. I have never witnessed something like that, and i never hope to again. I am glad though, that the TB will grow wings and fly to a place where he will be much happier w/o that broken leg, and even happier that a little broken filly has found a home where she will not know any pain or suffering. I will try and go visit her.. Mrs. Lundy is a very nice lady w/ a VERY big heart. She saw something in the broken fillies eyes.. pain, trial and suffering that no horse should ever know or experience.
I hope, in all my years to come which will be spent with horses, that i will be able to help as many horses in need as possible. W/o kind people..good horses that need love would only be left in despare. I want to thank everyone (and Mrs. Lundy) for everything they do for horses, and hope that I, nor anyone else ever have to witness so much pain ever again.. over somethings that can be prevented.
