Does anyone have a current list of horse auctions here is California?? We are not going through CBER or others for future rescues but will go to the auctions where we can help the most. I want nothing to do with the drama that's apparent with several members/rescues, is confusing and frankly I could have put in some good ground work on one of my guys in the amount of time I was tying to sort out the numerous postings...... I gave up,l ol. We (Lone Oak Rescue ) hope to be all set up by late spring early summer, our rescue will remain private and small, but helping one horse at a time. I am hoping this board can remain a positive place where I can stay in touch with fellow horse lovers who just want to help the horses. Anyone with a list of California auctions and names of KB to watch out for, please pass along , either here or email me, thanks

I know they have auctions in Turlock regularly. I hear there are lots of horses going for cheap ( most likely to kill buyers ) right now. I've never been to an auction, so this is just word of mouth from friends who do go.

Roseville? Is that the one Norcal goes to? I think there is an auction there this weekend. You might want to coordinate with them - they are going to try to buy every horse out from under the KBs. www.norcalequinerescue.com/auction_rescue.phpAnother good idea for picking up horses is to call Joe at TBFriends. He has a wide variety of horses that are at immediate risk of transport to slaughter. I think you usually just have to pay for transport.

TBFriends is a great suggestion. Joe's contact number is always part of his blog: www.tbfriends.comI believe the horses from "ranch foreclosures" are usually free, sight, unseen and all you need to pay is transportation. Joe has been helping to find these unfortunate horses homes for quite a while now. If he does not find them homes, most end up going to slaughter. He also has horses available for adoption from his ranch.

I see a bit of a problem with Joe's horses........(1) Gypsyrn needs to have a reasonable chance she can rehabilitate a horse, and move it out, so most of the 'sight-unseen- info unknown' would be too much of a risk. And (2), I'm not sure that Joe would move a horse into another temporary situation. Don't get me wrong, I support TBfriends, and I think what gypsyrn's doing is great too.........I'm just not sure they go together. I think she's got a better chance going to Roseville- identifying herself to Jason and Tawny, and work with them.

There is a livestock auctin in Petaluma every Monday morning; often there are horses but not always. If you'd like the contact information, let me know and I can dig it up for you.

I dunno, I wouldn't rule out TB Friends. Joe says "sight unseen," but if you say you want a quarter horse under the age of 4, if he hears of one he'd let you'd know. Plus all aren't sight unseen. In many cases you would know more about the horses history than an auction horse.
Norcal has a poopload of gift contract horses (I think they all are unless they are sound, broke and healthy - not rehab or retrain). Take a visit out to them and you can pick and choose from the horses in a less stressful setting.
Oh, jdacres.org always has a bunch of horses they need foster/training/rehab on. They started by taking on horses from another rescue, so would probably be amenable to a similar relationship. They usually have owner surrenders with known history.

Thank you everyone for your postings. I have contacted Joe a few times for people who are looking for a horse in particular, for one that is already to be placed. We are not that big of a rescue, but take on those who have issues and are in need for rehab either physical or trust issues. We will hopefull be putting up the first barn/ indoor work area next week and then the stable in Jan/feb. The ground is broken for both, we are doing everything ourselves so takes time and money, and we both work as well. We will have room for 2 more about Jan which puts us to 9, we will perm place one for my partner for his personal horse when one suitable is found, makes 10 total. Right now we have a wonderful gal volunteering who is assisting with training, so hope 2 will be ready to be placed come spring, (1 Arab,1 mustang) and then once placed will have more room. We are not looking for retirement horses for permenant placement at the rescue at this time, maybe once there are larger pastures set up, but not just yet. I am posting from work so will check the links asap, thanks again for all the info, please feel free to forward any other info to us at any time, lone_oak_rescue @yahoo.com thanks again, Belinda
