A friend of mine has a 9YO mare who is a nice riding horse. Not very pretty but kind and easy to be around. My friend cannot afford to keep her and she and I have worked our butts off advertising her online and off - with no response. What do you do when you can't afford the horse but you aren't able to find it a good home? It's pretty scary.

Why don't you tell us about the horse here? There is always the chance a reader will know someone...
Other then that, if you have a horse that you cannot find a home for and you cannot keep... I would have to say that putting the horse down is not the worst scenario.

She almost put the horse down 6 weeks ago but couldn't do it. This would make a great kids 4H horse or adult trail horse. She's a big mare, about 16 hands, chestnut. A TB. She's been ridden sporadically and also had a couple babies. When she is ridden (and I've ridden her, most recently last week and likely again tomorrow) she just goes. Not too fast, not too slow. Just right. She's a gentle horse and easy to handle. She's a plain jane, not very pretty and not suited for the show ring but she could make somebody very happy. Up to date on everything.
It would just be a shame to put a horse like this down because she IS young and serviceable and (like I said) would make a good kids horse or 1st horse for someone.

It would also be helpful to know where the horse is located..... and contact info if anyone is interested.

What about some pictures? That always help to spike some interest in a horse looking for a home.

Are there any colleges with equestrian programs nearby? I was able to free lease my hot (but very well trained) Thoroughbred mare to Earlham College's equestrian team. They are DELIGHTED, I am delighted, Willow gets what amounts to eight months' worth of free board, care, and the best training available. And she's treated like royalty. Besides colleges, there may be equine rehabilitation/therapy groups who would be willing to take a safe, sound riding horse. It's worth looking into, for sure.

Yes, PLEASE post the most flattering pictures you can, and tell us where she is!! Would she be suitable for taking beginners out on escorted trail rides? Good legs??

I don't have any decent pics of her but I do have a short video. If you are interested, I will PM you the link. (I'm on her and I'm not a confident or good rider so I'd rather not post it publicly.) At least you know if I get on, the horse is guaranteed to be a packer AND a saint. She is located in Western Washington. Thank you for the input.
