~ CROSS POST FROM BAEN ~ Free to Good Home, Rocket is a 6 yr old, 16.2 hh, chestnut Oldenburg cross seeking a loving home where he can cruise around a pasture and socialize with other horses. Rocket injured his right front impar ligament in Oct of 2007 and has significant arthritic changes in both hocks. He has spent the past 14 months rehabilitating from his injury but is not suitable as a riding horse. Rocket is an extremely social and attractive gelding. He had training in Parelli and Dressage prior to his injury, and will smile, bow, and say “no” for carrots! I am a college student and can no longer financially support Rocket. , 650-444-3580 Click here for ad with picture: results.bayequest.info/b001/showads.php?maintype=id&mth=4&subtype=1&adscatid=111590

I have talked to his owner. He has some very serious rehab issues and she just does not feel like she can give him the best care any more. Her dad is psying his board bill and it sounds like he is getting tired of it. I would take hi, but have just taken on two more and just don't have the room. I have her contact info if anyone wants it.

Thanks so much for checking on him, and getting the story.
I'm sorry to have to suggest this ... but, euthanasia might be the best option here.
She probably doesn't want to hear or think about it right now ... but over time, given the economy, might be the best thing for the horse.

He was diagnosed with arthritic back hocks at 3, improved with treatment, but is now totally un-sound. She thinks it could be his sacroiliac and says her farrier believes he could be pieced back together... but it sounds like a LONG... very expensive process with no guarantees. I also get the impression that even turned out to pasture he is showing sogns of pain. I might attempt it if I was closer... he has been schooled first level dressage and was a failry good trail horse as well. Maybe someone closer could take a shot at it? He is such a pretty boy.
