The Whitman County Sheriff has picked up three horses-- a paint stallion and mare and yearling (?) filly that may actually be a 2 year old. They are in good condition but have been abandoned. I know the horses and have been asked to place them. The mare and the stallion are both trained and ridable, the filly is smart, but hasn't been handled. These were papered animals but no papers will go with them. The sheriff wants to be rid of them but I don't want to see them go to auction because they will end up going to slaughter. The stallion will make a great gelding. These are beautiful horses that need some help and a chance. I am not set up for the big guys like these. Pleasde, put the word out and have anyone interested contact me. Jodi (509) 878-1484

I'm bumping this up. The stallion and mare have found homes but haven't been moved yet due to weather. The filly stills needs a home. We are concerned with this filly. She has never been separated from the mare and stallion and has never been handled. She's a big girl and according to the foster home goes nuts if the adult horses are pulled away from her. They are very concerned that she will injure herself. You can see by the picture the type of round pen she's in. It's the only thing that will hold her at this time and her mom has to stay with her. It's so slick right now here that the foster home is afraid to try and work her some. She is a very pretty gal and probably pregnant. If anyone can take this girl, please PM me. The adults are being picked up the weekend of the 17th weather permiting.

Oh Geeeze-is that mare pregnant again? And the filly is probably pregnant? Back to her sire? Glad the mare and stud found placement but that filly is concerning. Fingers crossed for her.

UPDATE! WE HAVE TO FIND THIS GIRL A HOME FAST. THE ONLY OTHER PLACES SHE WILL BE ABLE TO GO IS WSU TO BE PUT DOWN OR AUCTION. I'M NOT SURE HOW MUCH LONGER THE SHERIFF WILL DEAL WITH ALL OF THIS. IS THERE ANYONE BETWEEN HERE AND SEATTLE WHO HAS THE FACILITIES TO TAKE THIS GIRL. THE STALLION WILL BE HEADED IN THAT DIRECTION. SHAWNA, DO YOU KNOW ANYONE WHO CAN HANDLE THIS GIRL. The mare is being picked up on Sunday the 18th. The stallion will not be picked up for a week or so. My suggestion to the Whitman Cty Sheriff was to load all three and take them to the Colfax Fairgrounds and put the younger mare into the bull pen. She can't break out of there, there's food and water and the stallion can be kept in the pen next to her to start trying to separate them. There are chutes and stocks to use for loading and moving her. We've tried all the trainers and stables in this area-no one wants to deal with her. Please, if anyone can help. New pictures (and yes, she looks pregnant and probably is!)

Who's Jamie? As of tonight the word is that the Sheriff is hauling her Sam. Apparently Sam has given the originals owners some line about having people interested and if not she'd use her for her personal horse. Sorry, but I don't buy it for a second. She is a feedlot owners dream for shipping. If anyone can help this girl at all- she is supposedly heading to Yakima on Sunday. We're trying to buy more time.

OMG If its cber s am then there is no way she wants it for her personal horse, definitely not her type. She also doesn't like to deal in unhandled, scared young horses herself, if she had it, would get one of the "cowboys" to do it for the poor horse. Please tell them she will ship this horse in a minute or send it to Waynes if they give it to her. Your idea about initial separation is good one and a safe one, it would be better too if a calm animal could be kept beside her when the other horse leaves her too.

Mare is headed to Spokane to a boarding facility on Sunday. Stallion is headed to Eatonville? I believe in about a week or so. Owners have no money to do anything and I'm just trying to help place her. She's going to have to be in a pretty solid structure till she can be tamed down. When they moved the three horses just before Xmas, the stallion and older mare were loaded (their trained) into the trailer and the filly looked at the trailer and at looked at the horses. She pawed at the trailer (having never been in one), got spooked, ran back aways then turned around and ran for the trailer and jumped in. The foster people stood there with their mouths open. They honestly didn't know how they were going to move her from an outside pens with open wheatfields all around. So, she's got some common sense to her.

Mare and Stallion are safe-just waiting for weather to clear and their rides. It's the younger mare that no one wants since she's untouched. We've contacted all the trainers horse people we know and no one wants her. I can't take her (and don't have the facilities). I've actually recommended that if we run out of time, I'll put her down before she goes to Sam. But it's only if I can convince the owners. The sheriff is allowing them to help with the decisions. I know if I say I've got a good home for her, they'll release her.

Has she ever been handled? No, she's never had a hand on her. That's the problem. If I have a totally solid stall, I'd get her into it, but I don't have access to one. We helped tame down two wild Morgans that way. Within a month we had them haltered and eating out of our hands.

I have- I've left voice mails and emails trying to convince them into giving me and her more time. Sam will ship her off the day she arrives. I've been to Sams, I don't think she has a pen that will hold her. You can see the panels their in in the one picture. She has gotten out of those when they pulled the stallion out to play with him.

Jaimie is JTJedi, Jaime Thomas, she is in Washington, and trains mustangs.... she is a pro at the gentle down and have them in working order quick! she has done the mustang challenge twice and done excellentlly... this mare needs fast gentling so she can foal, then more work after she delivers... I don't have Jaime's phone number but there is an old link somewhere here to her blog and that would have her email... let me look...
mta: OK, found her email and sent her an email asking, well begging her to take this girl.. I'm not sure she can just 'take' her, could we raise some funds to at least fund her a little there to get gentled? I think she'd find a home ok if gentled...

As I posted on the SOS Board, yes, we could try raising some money for her. Would like to confirm that this could happen before asking people for money.

If the mare could be hauled with the stallion, the people will foster her until funds could be raised to get her down to Barb. Sound like a plan? Also wanted to add this gal can handle anything with 4 legs:)

As of 1/2 hour ago, the sheriff has told me to stop on the internet as he never confirmed that it was Samantha at CBER, just A Samantha in Yakima and that I was bordering on Slander. At this point the owners have agreed to release to a Samantha in Yakima and she will be taken with the Stallion on Sunday. Dean, the sheriff is extremely touchy at this point. I will send you an email with his info and if the people could work directly with him and see if they can work something out offering a home.

There is not another "Samantha", "associated with a rescue", in this area that I know of that would do this IMO.

News Flash, hope it is not too late... Jaimie is willing to take and gentle the filly... she will need some funding tho, and is in Kent. I have NO idea where this mare is... or how far it is to Jaimie, I'm in CA. but, if we can promise to look for a forever home (barb?) and raise some funds, about $650 is her normal fee for two months, we would need to let her know so she can set up chutes to unload her, and her pen.... can we do that?
