Is there a standard horse-lease form? I'm looking at a horse for a long-term Lease. The owner does not want to sell, but would do a 2-3 year lease until her son's out of College. SHE should come up with a Contract, but is there anything I should look for? I'll pay for everything, but in the case of catastrophic injury or illness........I guess I need to have power to have him put down.

I don't have a form, but in any situation where I leased a horse myself I was always required to carry medical insurance as well as loss of use and mortality insurance. This was required in the contract and I had to submit proof of coverage quarterly to the actual owner of the horse. The owner may not think about this - but it can SAVE you to carry the insurance if something big did happen.
I was also required to submit proof from the vet that things like dentals, vaccines and regular care had happened.
The horse I leased was extremely valuable so it might be a little different for a horse worth $5000K or less.

Hi, I just saw your post today. I asked a similar question recently and was directed to BAEN. They have a link to a bunch of standardized forms including different lease forms. You might check those out.
