Here is another one, we are getting these people like crazy lately that want to get rid of their horses. If anyone can help please email the owner. I have a 11 year old 14 hand mustang Stallion. I was > going to geld him > this spring and begin his training. Unfortunately the > bridge to his pasture > has broken and I can't get it fixed, so he is now near > my other horses and > causing trouble. He keeps getting out of my fencing (hot > wire string only) > and fighting with my other gelding causing injuries. I > don't have funds > right now to buy a secure round pen or get beefier fencing. > I can't geld > him until I have a secure area to exercise him post > surgery. I am looking > for a quick placement before anything more serious happens. > This boy is > quite sweet, but does need to be more gentled. I can put a > halter on him in > a stall but unable to catch in a large paddock. I would be > okay with > surrendering him at this time. > > Can you help? > > Thanks, Angie rishybucks@molalla.net

Where is the horse located? LRTC has mentors in several states.

The wording is similar to an ad I saw on Portland craigslist recently, I wonder if it's the same guy. If so, he is a gorgeous boy. I'll see if I can find it . . . .

Gosh Ashley, I feel bad that you guys are getting all these calls. But sometimes I think people are just shirking their responsibility to their horses. I mean, he is 11 and not gelded yet? Who cares if he does not have a place to exercise after surgery. At least he will not be breeding the other horses. I wonder if she was offered the cost gelding if she would keep him.
I would guess he is in Molalla, Oregon by looking at the email address she provided.

I think he is in Mollalla and I guess Mo has worked with him before and tried to help the owner, according to Mo (who works with mustangs alot, you may remember her from the 1st SAFE show, her and her mustang Fury won rescue horse High point) She was working with the horse and got him to le her catch him in the field. She linged him and worked with him on wearing a saddle. So he knows more than thought. But yes I agree they should have had him gelded years ago. Why do irresponsible people get mustangs....or other horse for that matter! URGH!

UPDATE: Mo talked to he owner and now she doesn't want to home out the mustang as she had a mt. lion or bear attack that killed her other horses and now all she has is the mustang....so she wants to KEEP it! Nice! urgh....people.

I have no idea that is the story she told Mo when she called her about the stallion.

a mountain lion or bear attack? in Molalla? We do have mountain lions around here, black bears too. Molalla butts up against the forested areas. I live by the Clackamas River and saw a lion many years ago. Talk about a heart stopper! It was about 5am and the sun was just coming up. It jumped off and embankment in front of me, took one leap across the road and was gone. But if there had been an attack, especially if it killed multipal horses, we would of heard about it on the news.

I grew up around Cougars. The areas I grew up had tons of them. I have also had a few on my propety out here in Port Orcchard(we back to state land and alpine tree farm) And, in my experience a cougar won't attack a horse unless the horse is injured/bleeding already, or possibly a small horse or pony. AND, they certainly won't attack and kill multiple horses.
I have found that 99% of the time if you are lucky enough to even SEE the cat, he freaks and runs. The ONLY time i have experienced otherwise was about 10 years ago at one of our previous houses(in the woods) and we had a sick, juvenile male managed to make camp in our outside shop building.(NOT a good thing - he marked all over and the smell was sickening!) It had an upstairs room that we always had open because it was just a stoarge area. Our dogs found it....lol. Scared the tar out of me. I ran my dogs out and the shut down the doors and I called Fish and Game and they came and tranqulized and moved the cat to a wildlife rehab center.
ANd - even sick enough to almost be dead that cat was freaked and wanted to run.
So, the propsect that a cougar killed multiple horses is rather obsurd to me. Sorry.... I hope that whatever happens with this horse it ends up landing in a safe home.

I know there is the wildlife but it's the "numerous horses" part that strikes me as unbelievable. Like you said, we've had heard it on the news. I've never heard of anything of the sort (goats and sheep, yes) happening so close to home and I grew up here.
