Hello folks: its been a while since I posted. Busy with SAFER and my wonderful CBER mare Rhiannon (Cherry Blossom).
I have a request for those who are living in Portland. I have a wonderful magic friend who has rapidly progressing MS - very rapid and apparantly non-remitting. She is in a chair. Her therapist/shaman has strongly suggested she spend some time with a horse or horses. Not to ride. Just to visit. I hope this doesnt sound strange (makes perfect sense to me these days....) but she needs to talk with one. Dont know how long or how many sessions. It might take some time for her to remember that language. But she needs to speak it and she needs to speak it with a horse. She has no horse experience and has simply felt they were beautiful but way too big - as she is all of 100 pounds herself.
She is a delight to be around. Beautiful energy. :'(She lives on NE 69th. If you can assist or direct me that would be wonderful. Thank you Kate 707-824-9543

I'm not sure how any of mine would handle the chair. So I'm hesitant to offer mine. However I would recommend she get in touch with the folks at BEAT www.beatriding.org/about.htm . I have a friend who volunteers there and speaks highly of it. I believe there are several other groups in the portland area that have therapy horses as well. There is also www.forwardstride.org/ which my vet volunteers care for at least one of their horses. I believe they have more accreditation, but for what your friend needs that may not matter. They may be closer to your friend as well.

Kate, Atticus lives at Macaw Landing Foundation www.macawlanding.org/ in N Portland (kinda in the outskirts of NE near Delta Park) and they have tours daily. They have wheelchair access. She is welcome to come and spend some time with Atticus, he is used to seeing wheelchairs , we have alot of seniors and disabled that come to tour the foundation. Atticus loves attention and treats. Does she have a person that can come out with her and help her, I am working alot lately so I will not be there, but she is welcome to come over and visit. She can call Jack the curator of the foundation and set up a time, his number is 503-286-0882. Ashley

Thank you both very much! I will forward the message to her. I remember Atticus, of course - he might be the right soul to have a chat with. Kate
