Ok. I have agreed to help someone rehab a "found" horse - and after assessing the horse today the horse despreately needs to be on antibiotics. The catch - and we ALL knew there was one - There is not alot of money to get a vet out. The good news??? I have enough veterinary and medical background and schooling to go ahead and diagnose, but not a current medical license to prescribe lol. The horse has multiple deep puncture wounds over the body and 2 severly absessed feet -along with what I believe(cant diagnoses with bloodwork) to be pnemonia start. This kid has been started on IV fuilds and the wounds have been cleaned and are now bandaged. BUT -with money tight for this situation I am going to ask you guys for help. THAT being said - i am going to go for a shot in the dark here and see if anyone has some extra of the following:


Doxycycline- Need 100mg tabs - 120-200tabs

Naxcel

Or - worst case -

Tucoprim or SMZ's

I am really prefering to not have to do the penicillian route - way to big of risk of reactions.

I can personally pay for the antibiotics Just let me know. I think that the horse will be ok, but needs a fair amount of care right this second.

Thank you all so much!!! This is a really tough situation - but I have great hopes for this horse to recover - he is not under weight at all, and the actual owner loves him dearly and wants him to be healthy - another family memeber has taken over care for the time being since the actual owner is a 92 year old man who is in the hospital with a shattered leg and pelvis(he was trying to brush the horse and treat the absesses and the horse startled and kicked him accidentally - the poor man laid there for 2 days before someone found him!) Horse ended up standing there tied and thrashing into the fence for an additional 4 days before anyone was notified that the horse was in trouble.....

Hi All - just thought I would throw it out one more time to see if anyone has any doxycycline(even the human stuff if you have extra!!) or Tucoprim powerder?? I have had a few ;people try to see what they can do, but still need to get some antibiotics for this guy. I have called my vet and explained the situation and am waiting for a call back, so hopefully that will work out - but till then I need to get some stuff for this kid
