Heard on the news this morning that a 'herd' of horses escaped and were on a rural road in the dark, when a driver came upon them, and apparently didn't see them. 5 horses killed AND the driver........... Moral..........keep your fencing secure.

2 of the horses (Goldy and Moonlight) were recent placements from NorCal Equine Rescue. They had been saved from a livestock auction.
They are thinking that the horses were spooked, perhaps chased by dogs or coyotes that ran them through the electric fencing. No word on whether it's wire or tape.
I really think that speed limits on rural roads, even highways, needs to be cut in half from dusk to dawn....anything can be on that road, and people tend to drive much faster than the speed limit anyway. I feel horrible for this driver and his family, but also for the owners of those horses.

The driver that was killed left behind a wife and two children....sounds like he was a really great guy.
