I'll be more than happy to help picking up this girl, if somebody is interested...... Just makes me cringe! sandiego.craigslist.org/esd/grd/1094502734.htmlovero mare 22 yrs old (in foal) - $1 Reply to: sale-mpzwd-1094502734@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?] Date: 2009-03-27, 8:39AM PDT She is a sweet horse, had a few nice foals. Too many horses here for the bills so we need to let her go. Good home only, she is older and on her last years. Not for riding, she will foal in Aug/Sept. You must keep her away from mean horses, she doesn't protect herself very well, very gentle mare. The winter is hard on her. Mod. my spelling errors....

Swissy, how close are you? here is what she wrote me back...
Hi Beth, There is a woman who said she is coming to get her, she just called, can I contact you if she flakes out? I have to tell a few other emails as well. MORE INFO_ She is not rideable, it would be cruel to...she would pull back when tied, but is too weak to do much damage like she used to before. She hauls and is cooperative in most anything, a good mama, she does not come with papers. she is bred to an aqha stud we had on our ranch.
and she sent me a pic... she is really cute... from last summer, with a baby. she is bred to a APHA stud they used to have... I emplored of her to be careful on who takes her... sounds not so great right now to ME... I think we need to help this one...

I'm in the San Diego area, anything around here is pretty close to me. Let me know if you need help. I can't keep her here long, as I'm full, but I can hold her for a bit, and might be able to help with a caravan transport.

She is in a pretty bad condition, some illness is making laying down or standing from laying very painful, and that is what is making her weight go down. she was a great halter horse in her day, then a broodmare, but now her body is failing, and she is in foal. the owner seems nice enough, and understands to look out for kill buyers... but she also can't do what is right for this mare (her vet told her last year to put the mare down). ugh. so, I can't get her off my mind, cause her name.... is Sunday. Can anyone help get her here from down south? owner can bring her north to Bakersfield... April 11th... if someone can help us from there...
and some fund raising for her ultimate disposition would be appreciated... we will need to do some vet work up on what her horrible pain thing is...

Why oh why, did they breed this mare if she is in such bad shape? God, I would just like to clock some of these people upside the head. Are they not paying attention to what is happening with horses? I do not care who you are, you should not be breeding right now, PERIOD!

I'm thinking she (the owner) might be willing to do that... where is 'here'? or, can Swissie bring her there? I'd rather she stayed down there... honestly, I think she will have the foal, and need to be put down after it is old enough. we can raise the foal tho, with the other two we have here... I love paints, maybe I"ll get a riding horse yet... I'll let you guys know later if she is willing to let her go to me, or my 'people' (or if she went to the 'other' woman tonight) hang on for a bit and we'll find out. bear with me tomorrow, as I need to drive up to the Oregon Border to get my big Bob... .so I'll be driving all day... only on internet via my sis...

Barb, are you offering to take her/pay for her care? or just a place that is available? I wonder if she could lay over there a week and then get a ride from a kind soul to meet me half way to us from you next weekend?
The owner is good with our arrangement, and said 'send them over' Yeah! one step of the way to safety.
can anyone help transport from Barb to half way to N. Cal?

Thanks Barb! I think I'd just worry way too much having a sick, pregnant mare boarded where I can't get to visit or see her every day... so, I think if we can arrange transportation north, that is best.
Swissgrl, I left you a PM, if we can maybe arrange next weekend to meet up mid way, would that work for you? you could pick her up any day the owner said, she is home all week, and will meet you in a town nearer you (and past her windy roads!) maybe we can meet just over the grapevine? on the map that looks like half way... Gorman exit... ?
I'm glad I called her and wrote her... the other people who had 'first dibs' sound like they were a farce... gave her a story about wanting to raise a baby.... blah blah... were going to board her... then said she was going to be turned out on 5 acres... oh, of course they no showed to get her... she wrote and said deals off... they called to complain... she said a rescue was coming, they said 'WE are a rescue!', she said "HUH?" and they gave her a name... somewhere by LA, but their IP was bay area... she did her homework, and nothing added up... so she waved them on.
I feel so much better, and honestly, so does the owner... she is grateful.... she knows she doesn't have the resources or facility to do the mare right.
and she will be here with her Aunt to foal... our Sunday and this mare's dam are half sisters (out of Grease Paint) weird, huh?

and she will be here with her Aunt to foal... our Sunday and this mare's dam are half sisters (out of Grease Paint) weird, huh? omg, that has "meant to be" written all over it! So the foals will be cousins - first cousins once removed or second cousins? I can never keep that straight! So, Ms. Sunday. You better get with it!! Or you'll be sharing your marestare with another mare!!

Swissie is picking her up tomorrow afternoon at about 3, the owner is meeting her part way. I'm then meeting Swissie half way down to San Diego to pick her up...
I do have to admit, I need another horse like a hole in my head, and maybe a hole in my head would be a good idea right now... argh... but what could I do? she was not going to a happy place... and I don't know that she can even make life much longer than to give new life... who would have thought I'd have TWO mares named Sunday, both delivering...
any contributions to getting down there to get her, or for her vet care are much appreciated, I am just guessing that she is going to need some major vet care and LOTS of groceries. she isn't due til August or September, so at least I have some time...
