let's see... I think we see Phoenix (the bay) and Diva (the red head) at the gate, and the paint is Rocky... you might catch glimpses of Sundance (haffie of course!) and Snow and her baby Moon (the black appy, and bay baby moose), you might see Taffy and Sissy out there too... they are the pasture crowd... :-) and had to do their introductions! hehe

Mr Sherman Tank had his feet done yesterday! Yipee! he fits nicely into a Size 2.5 Glove boot, so we can start riding! Yeah...! (well, I hope so... )
he did great, but was obviously sore on those fronts... farrier felt he'd do well in boots, so we will see...
wish me luck on the first ride!

OOOOH boy.... I hopped on and took a little ride tonight! he's gonna be one fun ride I think, did not do anything more than a walk... after we'd done some lunge work, he was a bit anticipating being asked for moving out briskly, and kind of jumpy, so we just did transitions walk to trot, trot to walk, up and down... he prefers to go left, and will try to scoot back to that way... hehe... so, I hopped on, we walked this way, and that, and then did a few turns around the arena, and back, some practicing turns and the brakes.... then hopped off on a great note. my daughter got on him after she rode, just for fun, and walked more.... he was very relaxed by then. :0) I'm very jazzed!

So, I took Tank to the Stampede Saturday and he was GREAT... totally chill. a friend rode him first for me, and he did ok, not very good at moving off the leg (weird) and then a little snippy on responding when you ask with both legs... he did some crow hopping for my friend when asked to lope, and just did a lot of angry head tossing and stomping his feet when I tapped to ask him to back up... but the good news is I rode him for a couple of hours! just walked but he is so chilled in the busy atmosphere... didn't mind flags, running horses, nothing. well, a box used for recycling flew at the fence by us and he jumped... that's it. he is still sore, but I started high dose Chondroiten, Glucosamine, HA and MSM supps last night, and also got some essential oils to use on his fetlocks but my friend with the oils looked and thinks he might have some mild laminitis... argh... is God just sending them to me? anyway... we will see... going to try the stuff and see how it goes!

Can you say "Oy Vey" ?
that glucosamine stuff ain't gonna touch this boy... he fractured his extensor process of his right front coffin bone. sheesh.... so, the call is 'in' the the equine orthopedic surgeon to see if it is too late to do surgery and fix it.... can we take up a collection ? I can NOT afford this right now. but what are you gonna DO?

argh, my fav surgeon got right back to me today, and said the fracture fragment is huge, and it would be best if he could get steroids and HA into the joint and make that work... darn it. he says the surgery is not without it's complications in such a large fragment. we will go with the rec's... and see

All righty, the injection did nothing for poor Tank, and he is just limping around the paddock, so called three surgeons and they agree he needs surgery. we will go with the most conservative approach, from Dr Yarbrough, and try to put a screw in to compress the fragment back in place to heal, and if it breaks, we have to remove it... best case scenerio is he gets good reduction and heals, and is back in work in 3 months, worst case scenario is the fragment breaks and has to come out during surgery, and he has a missing chunk of bone, but is sound, and back to work in 3 months. all sounds pretty good to me. Stall rest for at least 30-45 days... argh... but no cast. We are scheduling for the 21st of August, and he comes home the next day. wish us luck!
