I am so sad to tell you that Callie had to be put down this evening. On Monday she fell in her paddock and suffered a bad leg injury. We tried to keep her medicated to keep her out of pain but not being able to put weight on it became too much for her. She was in her early 20's and in great shape but she was wanting to lye down to rest and she could not get back up. We did everything we could for her. My kids and I are absolutley devistated. This was the saddest day ever. I cannot stop crying. Callie came to us from CBER 2 years ago. We had no expectations of her, we didn't know what we were getting, the point was, we jus wanted to save her life and give her a great home. She turned out to be SO much more. My daughter won 3 buckles on her at the CGA State Championship Show in 2007. That little horse put her heart into everything she did and we were so proud of her. We love her so much. She was a beautiful black horse with a white stripe, my dream horse as a little girl. We love you so much sweet girl and we will never forget the difference you made in our lifes. We are so lucky to have found you. RIP Callie

Thank you all for kind thoughts. There are so many little kids at our barn that loved Callie as well. They would all fight over who got to ride her so they had to make a list up on the board. They are going to be crushed.

Oh Pikzee, I am just heartbroken to hear your sad news. I remember so well your joy over discovering what a gem you had found in your beautiful Callie. She has always seemed like the poster child for the true worth in the "throwaway" horse.
Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts during this time, and let those kids at the barn know that they are joined in their grief by all of us who "knew" Caliente. Love and hugs to you.
Hope

Oh God Christie....
I am so sorry. She was one of my favorite "saves" from CBER and the reason it was so hard to walk away from them, knowing there are so many great horses out there not getting a chance.......
I loved hearing about how she was doing and was looking forward to meeting her in person one of these days at a show.
Thank you so much for taking a chance on this girl. You can bet that you and your family will be the ones she's waiting for at the bridge....

Oh I am sooooo sorry. I always thought her story embodied a Cinderella story; thin, little black mare saved from slaughter truck, blooms in her new home and is an incredible and sweet, brave and beautiful girl when she finds her true love humans... I loved hearing about her success and was so happy for her and for your family. I am sorry the ending is so sad for you all but rejoice in the spirit and love she brought you and that you gave her. Thank you so much for caring for her as you did. Her memories will live on and she is playing in greener pastures. All my thoughts go out to you and your family.
