This group has provided amazing support with incredible results for my cats in the past..
A friend of mine has a beloved cat who is very sick. Results have just come back - he has toxoplasmosis. His vet suspected that so he's been under treatment since Monday. This is a serious disease, but it is treatable if it's not too late.
My friend is very capable of doing the necessary hands-on care. But, this sweet boy needs prayers in a really big way. The next 24 hours will make or break.
So, being mindful of Swissy's post about losing her beloved dog, and remembering all the amazing stories we have of cats, dogs, and horses who have been brought back from the brink - please keep this kitty and his family in your prayers.
And, if anyone knows any alternative therapies that help support him while he's undergoing the traditional treatment - please post them here.
She's not part of this community, but I'll give her the link and let her know to take a peek from time to time to see if anyone has any ideas.
Thanks so very much!!

Isn't toxoplasmosis transmittable to humans?

From the CDC-
"Toxoplasmosis is considered to be the third leading cause of death attributed to foodborne illness in the United States. More than 60 million men, women, and children in the U.S. carry the Toxoplasma parasite, but very few have symptoms because the immune system usually keeps the parasite from causing illness.
However, women newly infected with Toxoplasma during pregnancy and anyone with a compromised immune system should be aware that toxoplasmosis can have severe consequences for them."
I knew that pregnant women had to be careful about cleaning the cat litter box, but did not know it was this common.

He is still hanging in there. He has a feeding tube in. I know that sounds really drastic, but it's actually a pretty minor surgery. He needs to get nourishment but his appetite is poor. A tube is an easy way to feed without stressing the cat out. The toxo has caused him to have encephalitis and that is the main problem. He is on medication to treat the toxo and the encephalitis. He is very weak and sleeps much of the time. He's in no pain, and that is why they are giving him a chance. The vet was encouraged that he is doing as well as he is, but he is still far from out of the woods.
Thank you for asking and thanks for caring!

I am so sad to report that she lost her beloved cat this morning.
Thank you for your prayers, jingles and good wishes.
Even though we all knew this could be the outcome she's still devastated. It's so hard to lose them - leaves a hole in your heart.

Ohhh...geez...how very sad. I'm so sorry to learn the kitty didn't make it. I was really hoping/praying for a positive outcome. Please tell your friend I am so very, very sorry. Caly, you are a sweetheart for doing what you could to bring positive vibes for the kitty. I'm sorry it wasn't enough.
