We went horse camping up to Buck Creek for the long weekend and man did we ever have fun! Excellent weather, and the most beautiful camping spot nestled in the mountains. I have to brag on Turtle for just a minute.......For a horse that hasnt seen much mountain trails for almost 10 months he did absolutely AWESOME!!! We went for a short ride Friday after it had cooled for a bit and although he did buck twice after that he was an absolute gentleman and even let a stranger come up and touch him all over and hang onto his breast collar for a minute or two, something which would have been out of the question earlier in the year. On Saturday we went for a long ride about 2 1/2 hours and even though it was warm there was a spot where there was water over the trail and for the first time ever Turtle got his feet wet. Im talking all four feet and even though we went through it sideways it was a big step for him having the confidence that water wasnt somehow going to eat him. He went by tents, bicycles, dogs and other horses without a care, navigated some tough spots on the trails and did so good I was so impressed. So we had a great weekend without fireworks and did some great riding.

I wish that were us, sounds like you had a great time and Turtle has the makings of a great trail horse. He is such a pretty thing too....
my little Arabian Kal has made a break through, the little guy that essentially cleared a 5ft fence from a standstill to escape us 6 months ago....stood without halter/tie in his pen and allowed me to put on his fly sheet, (belly band and neck cover too) without budging.... and even approached 3 of the new volunteers....making big strides in the trust department.

I won't go too much into the neighbors lighting off HUGE fireworks RIGHT over our pastures-horses running berzerk-and they(neighbors) seemed clueless-they had moved their own dogs out of their kennel but didn't notice the horses RIGHT on the other side of the fence??!! BUT........ On a VERY EXCITING note (at least on my planet) I have been working with Little Joe and my hubby-the more or less 'non horse person' he means well but doesn't know what he doesn't know-and well Joe hasn't bonded with Jon and Jon has been overall frustrated-and FINALLY-having Jon doing groundwork etc-while I coach-and in the last 2 weeks we have gone from Joe freaking out in Jon's presence to now paying attention-Jon sending him out-asking for direction change, whoah, back up etc-and waiting for invitation to come in for the forehead rub reward-and yesterday Jon turned him out after a session and then asked him to approach again and Joe came up to him in the pasture for another forehead rub-Like I said-on my planet-this is HUGE.

Mine was great for a slightly different reason! After almost 3 years of worsening diarrhea, I got a diagnosis for my boy Tory. I finally took him to the Vet Hospital at UC Davis, and among the many normal tests they ran, they got a positive on the Rectal biopsy. He has Eosinophilic Enteritis, which is treatable with steroids. I haven't yet spoken with the Vet, so I don't know the details, but I'm just so happy to KNOW what the problem is.
