I'll try to go this weekend, Chatty, and take some pics. I sure wish people were interested in adopting some of these beautiful horses. You're right, most, if not all, will go to slaughter.

Isn't that the truth! And when there are so many really, really nice horses out there for free, who wants to invest in one of these? Even at $100 a piece. Very sad.

Wish there was a money tree...I'd put in a crop....We all know cost of the horse is easy..It's after you get them the cost stacks up.....
This year we were able to work on prices...Last year it was a straight 100.00 a head, no young ones.... This year we have a choose of all ages...And prices at 50.00 to 100.00 range....Extra if you want them halter or more broke.... Alot of the adults will go to slaughter, but babies need a chance..I'm a fighter for the young...In the tummy or on the ground.... 50.00 for under a year, 75.00 yearlings and the rest at 100.00...
Were not saving from the feedlot anymore, but we are knowen for stepping in before they end up there...
Got to go....chatty

He ran a add in CL...I put the word out and then contacted him....He and I worked a price out for us as rescuers....At that time he had 41 horses and will continue to catching them until this fall, when weather gets bad.... No, he can't hold them over the winter.....Pooling together and getting the babies out would be best...Yearlings would be the next step.... Work out where we are, how many wish to get a horse....Work out pick up and transport... He can also try (TRY) to catch a color you wish.... Right now colors are: Black, Bay, Sorrel....Buckskin, Paints have been spotted...
Contact kidznhorses or myself....We can get some before the feedlot.......

I am willing to help Chatty and Kidz here in either looking, pics, transport locally or even as a temp place to hold a couple till they leave. Unfortunately we cannot adopt any at this time, but I will help anyway I can if people out of the area want one. I can coordinate with Chatty and Kerrie as needed.

Hey guys sorry I have been gone so long.. Life got crazy and we have no internet at the house. (We are in a no DSL area and the dial up was making me crazy)
I still have my little Dyna who was on the lot 3 years ago. She is A funny full of personality girl, as game as they come and tough enough to kick Chesters hinney when he needs it! LOL
She's a beautiful girl, (I think she looks like a connemera) We are ground driving in prep for cart work and she looks STUNNING even in my dirty beat up surcingle. She is ever so smart and we LOVE her. She started off a bit of a drama queen, but much of it was just baby stuff and she was a calm mellow pocket pony soon after she arrived in SoCal. (Aunt Kerrie did some gentling before she came down and I am sure that helped)
It's hard to believe she is or close to being 4!!! We took her to the Lifesavers health and Sfety fair last October. She was in the costuime contest as a "One trick pony" wearing feather boa and all.
Feather/Dreamer also came from the Rez. I'll have to find a current pic of him, but OhMy can you say Hubba hubba? He is a stocky well put toether young man... and appears to be a Dunalino, still with a touch of curl in his mane and forlock. He has been gelded and is training under saddle, (and doing great) His mom is completely in love with him, and the trainer is keeping the gates locked because so many people are looking at him long and hard as they ride/drive by they were worried someone might try to steal him.
These horses have HUGE hearts and are very trainable. having been born in the they tend to be more mentally healthy then most of your "barn raised" youngsters.

I hope to have 2 placed this next week, and was thinking that I would have room and $$$ but.... one of our foster moms just took in 2 more mares that were picked up by animal control in Santa Clara county. Body scores of 2.... that and the one posted on our site is 3 long term recovery's. We need to help her out with costs. I will post pics of the new ones on our site. I still want to work towards saving some of these little guys, anyone local wanting to work with me on a couple of these babies?

gypsyrn, were out of space at the ranch where I'm at, if you can hold them at your ranch, let's talk money.
I have 2 rez ponies, my mare was 8 to 10 when I got her 3 months later she had her filly, there both great!
I do have a soft spot for the older ones but it takes more time to turn them around.
But if you want to take on a few babies, lets talk I may have some extra cash .

I so want the foals to get a chance but we were talking though, between the long trip and not being able to unload them for 15+ hours and coupled with them likely not eating or drinking while in transport (since they are not used to being handled) means they could be in pretty bad shape by the time they get to the end of the road. Anyone with experience bringing back several on such a long trip?

I don't think they would mind if their only other choice is a trip to mexico or canada

It's not minding the trip its can the babies make a trip of 15 hours and come out ok, they're not domestic so doubt the will eat or drink when offered and we can't just lead the off to get a break. has anyone hauled unhandled mustangs foals a distance before? just trying to problem shoot here

Look at it this way gypsyrn. If there not taken in they'll probably go to auction then feedlot & off to slaughter, so there dead all ready.
If they can go to a holding ranch at least they have a shot, if they won't eat or drink because of stress then we put them down, which is way better then slaughter.
I know what I just said is a hard line, but it's the truth IMO.
If they don't make it though the trip, one could say it was a wast of money & they would be right. That money could be spent on a horse that has a better chance or is local.
No one has to do anything they don't feel good about, end of story.

I've hauled wild horses much farther than 14 hours in one trip. They WILL drink if you offer a large bucket of water and close the door and leave them a bit. Place a bucket inside the back door (like a muck bucket) with water, then go eat. They will be fine! You can throw hay in the trailer with them. They will eat during the trip. They may not be domestic, but they are smarter than domestic! They will drink if they need to.
