Hi all, I just wanted to let you know that we will be letting Atticus go today. He finally sucumbed to the arthritis in his knee and hips and he foundered on his other good leg yesterday. With no good legs to stand on left we decided it is time to let him go. We will put him down this afternoon. It is very sad since his mind is very much there, but his body just can't go any further. I am having a hard time reconciling that. We will miss him terribly, he is truly the greatest horse we have ever owned, there is no other like him. Thank you all for thinking good thoughts about my boy today. Ashley One of my favorite pics of Atticus - he is a character. Rest In Peace sweet boy.

I'm so very sorry that you have to face this decision, and release this being you love so much. I know that a perfect body awaits him on the other side, and that your spirits will meet again someday. Blessings to you both.
Hope

Thank you to everyone for their good thoughts. Atticus went very peacefully and quietly. He just laid down and basically went to sleep. He seemed very ready to no longer be in pain. He was the best.

I am so sorry to hear he is gone, but grateful for a loving life with you and a peaceful passage. It is hard to let them go, but he will live on in your memories and in who you are. Everyone we love - 2 legged or 4 legged - leaves their impact on us long after they are gone.
Blessings to you

My thoughts are with you, Ashley, at this difficult time in your life. At least you have the satisfaction of knowing you gave him some very good years and had the kindness to know when it was time to let him go. That is always a tough decision. Bless your heart. Laurie
