Geeze... yellow jackets attacked both my horses and a friend of mine last week. My friend got stung on her face and hands. Vali got stung right on her eyelid and Archer all over his back legs and groin.

A reminder to always keep those Epi pens with you at ALL times, if you are even the slightest bit allergic to wasp/bee stings.
The yellow jackets were attacking and stinging very early (July) this year. Usually they only start attacking people in late Sept. (We keep track as my one daughter is allergic). I wonder whats up with that?
We lost a goat doe to a wasp sting. We found her next morning with her throat real swollen. She obviiously suffocated. I actually saw her get stung, but I did not think of giving her a shot of Epinephrin, which we always keep handy in the fridge in case of shock caused by a vaccine or E-Se shot.

We actually were there horse camping, it happened at Timothy Lake - we stayed at the Joe Graham corrals - the gal had been air lifted the day we got there. We all got swarmed by bees many times on our ride and one of our riders got dumped and stung many times. Indi got stung 5 times and then I decided only evening rides for me! They were ground hornets and very vicious!
If you hear of bees ride 2 by 2 if you go in a big line it is the 3 -4 -5 riders in the line that get the brunt of the bees. Trot through them and you can get past them quick. If you have a green horse, I would recommmend not riding. All of our horses were pretty steady so they didn't do anything rash when stung.

I think the long hot summer has alot to do with the bees this year. Plus bees are getting hungery this time of year and are getting ready for winter. There isn't as much food out there for them and they get nasty about it.

Turtle got stung this year as we were heading downhill to cross a bridge over water. Luckily I stayed on, but had no warning he was about to buck. The only thing I could have landed on were stumps......The deer flys have been awfully bad this year also.
