See you there! Bringing Little Joe and possibly Hilary-will keep you posted when I figure that part out. Glad I went last time and even tho I couldn't get Joe in the trailer and took George instead-the tools I came back with have done tons with Joe's "domestic inclination issues"

About dang time I got on Joe-yesterday was ride #3 and I am still not asking for more than a walk-but after the ground driving & groundwork we had been doing-his steering isn't 'so bad' and he's backing, sidepassing (somewhat) and turns on the forehand. Now let's see what he does in a big scary arena with a bunch of new horses/people all around. My daughter took this pic on her phone-he must have been moving his nose-he has like 3 of them in this shot LOL-but hey-I am on top and we are moving yippee!!

Yesterday was the first ride off the property. We followed hubby on the steady eddy-been there done that mare past some barking dogs, Fed Ex truck and a couple cars (there are only about a dozen houses on our road on the way to the trails). Got out to the trails and went in our feeder trail to the main gravel road loop and turned around -he was fine-but a question-regarding forward motivation......sometimes he stops and goes backwards for a bit before we forge out ahead again.-Gues that is what we will work on today.

Good boy!
Have you tried him in front? Manny balks, backs, tries to turn around and basically acts like a fraidy cat if he's following. As soon as he is out in front he has a lot more confidence and is very forward. It was really counter to what I believed about horses, so it took me awhile to catch on.

Hadn't tried him in front too much-that was his first ride actually off the property-and yes-he is a very good boy-I just love this guy-he's never gonna be a fancy dancy show horse-I just want to trail ride and take him camping in the mountains. The hesitation was when I asked him to head back down the trail -at the start of it there is a decline-2 minute delay without any real drama-no big deal. Our ride this morning was mellow and we worked on steering, stopping and asking him to step back out again-I was thinking more about my seat bones and leg position today too. It was just us as hubby was sleeping in-so we didn't go anywhere.

Yesterday was ride#2 off property-did about an hour on the trails-it is a combination of trails and gravel road-rode with daughter and step daughter-we tried all positions in the pack-he did fine with all. Here is a pic as we were headding out. YEAHHHHh! Joe the trail horse-the walking -trotting trail horse! Am excited for the clinic this weekend-hope the weather holds off so I can get a few more hours under saddle before then. (but working a double today-yuck) i54.photobucket.com/albums/g103/wildwomanLL/October2009084.jpg
