Miss Dream gained a couple of roomies yesterday. Well, not exactly roomies, but barn mates. The BO has created a big double stall next to Dream. It's really nice and has a big turnout around the back. Amy Lee's 2 horses were brought in yestrerday. I was excited about it becaue I thought Dream would appreciate more company. LOL...this morning when I showed up to take her out to pasture, I got more than the usual nicker of recognition and saunter over. She whinnied like I had a grain bucket!!! Came prancing over and stuck her big old head right in the halter. It was like she was saying "Thank God you're here, now get me out to pasture quick!!!". I'm sure she'll adjust and learn to like her new barn mates, but she doesn't seem to have much tolerance for their settling in period. She went right in to her stall tonight and gave the new kids a quick "how do you do", but it wasn't the warmest of greetings. I'm guessing that she prefers peace and quiet in her stall....I had to laugh, she just cracks me up.

Miss Dream and I went on our very first camping trip She was an absolute doll and a delight to be around as usual. I was a little worried because I don't have a truck and trailer, so do not take my horses anywhere unless it is necessary (vet). Dream hasn't been trailered since I got her over a year ago. She is so cute. She walked right into the trailer and then backed out just as calmly Dream is very "matter of fact" in everything that she does Same thing she did when I picked her up at Linda's. She decided to stay in trailer after a bit of coaxing and off we went. I pitched a tent right next to her corral at the campsite. I thought it would be fun and it was, but I was up half the night. Went to bed around 12:30 AM. Dream saw me go in. I heard this thump, swoosh sound. thump, swoosh, thump, swoosh....thump, sssswwwoooocccchhh....Yup, Dream was playing in her water bucket. She dumped the sucker. Okay, about 1:30 AM, in the dark, I get up and re-fill for her. She needs water, right? I know she is bored and cannot blame her. Okay, water is full, gave her some grass hay. Now, I hear chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp for quite a while. I fall asleep to this sound. I think it was a couple of hours later, when I hear the pipe panel being rattled. I wake up and think what is that? ? OMG, is her leg caught? Is she cast? I scramble out of the tent, Dream is standing by the gate and looks at me like, "hey, what's up? glad to see ya ". Hmmmm, all is well. Shut tent, lay down...rattle, rattle, rattle. Open tent, look at Dream, same innocent, "hey, how ya doing look" on her face. Hmmmmmmm, shut tent lay down, rattle, rattle, rattle and I ignore it. Pretty sure Dream is fine We had a really nice trail ride in the morning. Dream is a character. Everybody on the ride loved her and was amazed/flabbergasted that I got her from a feedlot owner and was destined for slaughter. The people on this trip were friends of my farrier. They had no idea that "such a good horse" could end up on the feedlot. Now they do and I hope they spread the word.

Kerrie, I would love to join you at Elk Creek! This weekend has reminded me how much I love to ride trails. I've been spending most of my time in an arena. There is lots of property around the ranch, but it's not a managed like a park. Basically, you need to cut out your own trail or follow the cattle's path I would love to go more places. I REALLY need a truck and trailer and have decided to start saving NOW. This weekend reminded me that it is a necessity

Overnight camping. . . Ah, yes, I remember it well. That was back in my 4-H days and it was my first time out. Our horses were tied to trees and we were bedded down on the ground (no tent). I was sleeping next to a 4-H leader who was between me and my old horse Colonel. Neither of us got much sleep that night! I took my flashlight to bed with me and if I heard a noise, I would shine my flashlight over the leader to see if Colonel was OK. He was. But, you couldn't convince me of that. . .so, with the next little noise, the flash light would again shine. Pretty funny looking back on it. I think all concerned were very happy to get back home, however, where everything was familiar and routine established.

Sure you don't want us to pick the 2 of you up for the July camping trip? Sounds like you had a great time. Dream is such a good girl! I am sure that I would LOVE for you to pick me up, but sadly, cannot make it I've burned up my excess vacation and the rest is scheduled away....I have 4 days left untiil the end of October when I get my extra week ;D I'll have 7 years on October 25th and they won't give me the week a day early So, I have Sterling's vet appointment on 7/11 and 3 days in September for the Savvy conference in Colorado. So, I'm tapped out. Took too many, why go to work, it's spring and I can ride days!!! Oh well, I had fun. Thanks for the offer

It was a kick to sleep next to my girl. I am an unfortunate condo dweller, so my kids are boarded out. Dream cracked me up. I always wonder what she's doing when I'm not there. Apparently, she can amuse herself She spends her days in pasture now, so she doesn't have to amuse herself all the time. I bring her into a stall at night, but she seems to enjoy the respite. Also, she doesn't like rain, so I need to keep her stall all year or she'll lose it and the diva would have to endure the elements

My Dream girl went to "camp" today Well, she didn't go anywhere, but she got to delight about 20 children today. Unfortunately, I had to work, so wasn't able to participate. Apparently, Dream was a star (definitely not surprising ). She was first ridden by some camp counselors to make sure that she was safe. I thought that was kind of funny. Of course, she's safe, she's Dream!!! My best friend is a riding instructor that is co-directing the camp and the counselors are her students. I know them well and am sure that Dream had a good time. Well, Miss Dream passed her safety test with flying colors and gets to tote around some campers tomorrow. I am confident that she will take good care of them and enjoy herself. She just loves people and wraps everyone around her hoof from the get go

Isn't it hard to not be there.. I mean you must want to know everything that happens and she can't tell you! Nope, it's not hard, my best friend was one of the organizers of the camp Dream did 2 days with the kids. Fiona and Kay told me all about Dream's day, each day. Several other boarders volunteered and helped at the camp, so I heard all about Dream's escapades. Dream's 2 days, consisted of a lot of grooming time, lots of breaks in her comfy stall, some ground work and some riding time. She is walk/trot only and I specifically asked that my tack be used, which it was. I think she enjoyed herself ;D The kids loved her and wanted to ride her in the "show" on the last day of camp. Dream did the show and was absolutely wonderful for about 30 minutes Unfortunately, the show was about an hour long. She had been ridden in the large round pen the day before. Had I known, the show was going to be in the outdoor/dressage arena ( not enclosed ), I would have told them that Dream WOULD leave the arena with small child on her back and go back to her stall when she saw fit...LOL...that's exactly what she did. Apparently, she made 3 attempts to leave the arena that were thwarted by camp volunteers. Seeing an opening, when volunteers were distracted elsewhere. Dream made her move. She WALKED right out of the arena and headed for home. She is a crafty one Turn your back for a second and Dream's gonna do what Dream wants to do. Usually involves walking into the barn in search of cookies or some other benign activity. A volunteer tried to catch up to her, so she WALKED faster...hehehe. She stopped in front of her stall and the volunteer led her back to the arena to finish up the show. A larger and older child with more experience rode Dream next and there were no further incidents. The parents and children thought Dream was the coolest horse there and I have to agree with them ;D

Dream is now in a 24/7 pasture with shelter. She takes her job as "the diplomat" quite seriously. As far as the herd is concerned, Miss Dream is quite low in status, but nobody really bothers her. When she is needed, she will step up. You don't want to pick on anyone when the Dream girl is around, she is quite agile for her age and very fair She's in a pasture with Gyps, who is the elected ruler of all! The funny thing is that Gypsy doesn't harass Dream like she does the others. I guess wisdom is respected in the herd MTA: I've been riding Dream while ponying Ally lately. I cannot express how blessed I feel to have Dream in my life. She'll do anything I ask of her with a whole heart. Ally is higher up in the herd than Dream ( same pasture), but she trusts me to lead them both. It's a very cool feeling. Miss Dream is getting me used to ponying, my goal is to pony the Gypster off of Ally. Just getting my feet wet with the MOST SOLID horse I've ever known. Dream is truly a dream for me, there's no other way to say it ;D

Dream has become Sterling's companion. She's really good company for my boy with the stifle injury. They are in a big 2 horse paddock now and she seems quite content. She's in good health and is happy to tote me around for leisurely rides. She's sweet as ever, always makes me smile, and usually makes me laugh out loud. The paddock is pretty muddy and Dreamy is wearing a lot of it!!! Her shelter is dry with no mud. At least half of the paddock is pretty mud free ( up the hill ), but she chooses to stay down near the gate where it is pretty soupy. Silly horse! I'll try to get some pics when she is looking a bit more prestine

Oh my goodness, just realized that I hadn't updated Dream's thread in ages. She's so wonderful that it is necessary to sing her praises as often as possible ( thank you all for cyber listening, my friends are sick of it). I have been remiss in my duty I do not have pics today, but want to report that Dreamy had an eye exam during her spring vaccination visit and all is well. I'm a worry wart and since she tends to get the red eye, sort of stoned look, I tend to imagine uveitis ( she's an appy...). Vet exam done and cannot see any history of uveitis (third check, still no history ), just a little bit of a "focus" problem. The vet said it is perfectly normal for an older horse or person for that matter. She told me, "ya know how older folks tend to hold whatever they are trying to read like this (picture a vet holding something at arm's length)? Well, that's just the aging process." So Dream is perfectly normal for her years and in good health. A bit on the chunky side from my view, but the vet said it was nothing to worry about and actually gave a chuckle at my concern. Hmmmm, I know when I am being patronized. I'm a worry wart, no need for mocking. New vet and despite the mocking, she was nice and Dream was happy, so I feel good about the whole thing. Back to Dream, she is still a character She is living with a young, handsome boy that THINKS he is still a stud. You'd think the old gal would be a happy camper, but she's a mellow camper. She calls for him when he leaves, but pretty much TRIES to ignore him when he's home. LOL, he's a playful boy and doesn't mind expending lots of energy in an effort to entice the hottie he has access to. Dream views his behavior as a mother would view a rambunctious boy without a clue. She tries to dismiss him, but he IS insistent. He needs attention and Dream is herded about their paddock at his whim. She complies with a rather ingratiating aire and stud boy thinks he is THE MAN. I think it's perfect for both of them. Dreamy really does need encouragement to move and Sterling needs a confidence boost. They've worked it out and I love to watch the show

Dreamy and I finally made it over to Morgan Territory last Sunday. I had been hesitant to take her out as Sterling gets pretty mental when she's gone. He's settled quite a bit, so we ventured out into the wilderness. We have to walk on the road ( pretty much a one laner ) to get to the park from the ranch. Dream was EXCELLENT!! She cracked me up as usual. Big, loud motorcycles were no problem at all, but she did spook at the first bicycle we saw It was a great day and she was a champ. Instead of the usual moseying ( arena style ), she walked out really nicely with her ears perked forward and an excited aire about her. She seemed a tad bit nervous at times, but mostly just happy and interested in her surroundings. I had to laugh, the 10 year old, rather hot gelding that was with us kept lagging behind ( at the walk). Dream was on a mission

Well, Miss Dream and I ventured off on our own yesterday. I had planned to do a nice, easy and quick little ride from Rockin Z to the park and back. We had gone up the road by ourselves yesterday and Dreamy seemed okay about it, so I wanted to reinforce that it is okay to go out without other horses. Well, Dream had no problems at all, so I thought, heck, we're here at the park, why not go for a little trail ride? Ummm, maybe because I don't know this park very well...don't know where I'm going....it's a big park....Well, the previous reasons never reached my brain, so Dream and I set off for a "quick" little "loop". Apparently, there was nothing quick about the loop that I had embarked on. In fact, after turning around and doubling back ( not looping ), it was at least a 3-hour tour LOL....did I mention that I was riding bareback Ah well, live and learn My unexpectedly lengthy trail ride was actually a lot of fun. 4 hours with my Dream girl is always a blessing. She was so funny. When I decided to turn back, Dream certainly came in to her own. I have never seen a horse do this, so was quite surprised when Dream began putting her nose to the ground and sniffing our trail home. She would get the scent and immediately her head would come up, she'd give the cutest little nicker and start trotting...She was homeward bound, that's for sure. I had no idea that my horse was 1/2 appaloosa and 1/2 bloodhound!!! I am pretty sure that she'd have an escaped prisoner treed in no time flat ( If she felt like it, of course) Definitely a talented tracker.

I've never heard of that either! It will be something to look forward to the next time out. Could be a definite blessing. I got lost once on a steep mountain and my couple hour ride turned out to be more like 8. A horse that could sniff it's way home is a definite asset!

No, Elizabeth didn't end up leasing Dream. She came up a few times and rode her, but the place where I board Dream is a bit out of the way and once it started raining, they stopped calling. I know Elizabeth was in lessons. If she is interested in spending time with Dream in the spring, she is more than welcome to come visit, but I bet she's progressed in her riding abilities and will want a horse to canter/lope on regularly. Dreamy likes to walk and trot, not really a canter candidate at her age
