I still need info on what would make an adequate QT. If I can safely QT her here, I will.
I need input. Otherwise, she will have to QT someplace else. Does PEC have a better QT set-up?
Like I stated before, I have the room, just not sure about the safety of other horses. The ones that I have did get all of their vaccines this year. I do have a yearling colt so I worry about strangles. My other 3 are 7 and older. Not to say that they wouldn't get strangles as well. I want to help so bad, but I don't want my other horses at risk.
So any information I can get would be greatly appreciated.
Yes, Maverick, I did get your PM. I can offer her a home, fattening up, foaling out and I will make sure they are safe through weaning. Then to be honest, I will try to rehome them. But isn't that our goal? Get them safe, make sure they are healthy and happy and then find them forever homes!

I'm sure Shawna could probably QT and she is right over there by Granny, but we would need to raise some money for her QT and vet... As a side note, if she foaled out while in QT, Shawna has *LOTS* of experience with PG/foaling mares...
Shawna is Granny's PS and everything has to be cleared through her... I am hoping she has a chance to get online tonight... I have sent her a message and a voice mail so that she knows about this thread.

IF she is pregnant and in this shape there could be complications foaling or with the foal. Amazingly enough the foals usually are ok, it's the moms that suffer. Keep in mind that vet bills may be high IF there are problems. I have seen many mares foal like this and all is fine.
Shawna definitely has the foaling down ;D

My husband and I were just discussing that with our young daughter. Poor baby, not getting enough to keep herself healthy let alone growing a foal.

I do not have the words to express the emotions that are flowing through me concerning the treatment this mare has received from owners who she probably trusted and liked. She is also welcome here if the other places find out that it will not work for them.

I'm with Dean/PEC, I say we dig a great big hole with the previous owners name on it!!!!!
I am angry that they would do this to such a gentle, old lady. Get her pregnant, treat her badly and then send her to almost certain slaughter!
Something about her calls to me. That's why I stepped up. I have a soft spot for the babies too.
I have had several babies born to mares in my care. A few were to mares that were abandoned in my care for a little over a year. I've had TBs, Appys and Arabs foal out with me. Almost 2 years ago, I bought 2 TWH mares. Both were pregnant when I purchased them and both of them foaled in my barn last winter, without complications. Over the last 10 years, I have had at least 10 babies born to mares that I have owned or that were in my care. I lost only one to a maiden mare that had never foaled and was accidently bred at about 18 months old. She foaled out the next spring, carried to term, but the baby did not survive.
So, I have some experience with foaling as well. This would be my first from a mare that is so debilitated though. I know if I have any questions, this group would be a great source of information to me, not to mention my own vet.
If she doesn't end up here, that's fine. I just want her to be safe, brought back to a healthier condition and safely foaled out. I know that whomever gets her will keep us all posted on Ms. Granny.

This mare isn't strong enough to make another trip back over the mountain. She is pretty week..I"m worried just hauling her 30 miles to my house. I can QT her & get her strong enough to hopefully travel within 30 days, but we need to get her preg checked ASAP....

I just had him out two days ago to preg check Molly & it was $30 total..but that was just for the service call & palp.. It might be as much as $50 but I can't see it being anymore than that at this time. I think we mostly need to determine if she is in fact preggers & if so approx how far along & what can we do.

Shawna, This sweet lady is more then welcome in Walla Walla (53miles from you), if you feel that my place is adequate enough for her!! Perhaps, you could find some time to come & give me advice so that I can make it the best ever for her?? However, I know nothing about foaling! But, let's get her off of the lot & vet checked ASAP. As weak as she is she probably should go to Shawna atleast til she gains a bit more strength, then it sounds like she has a few offers for a safe foaling.
For those of you who are new, please email the PS listed with your offers. If you haven't already been approved, submit an ap.
And remember even if you don't get Granny, there are sadly too many PG mares that show up even at this time of year! So rest assured one of them will need you, or even one of the youngsters on the sponsored page that are ready to start, or just need a refresher. They are already QT'd and ready to go. Taking one of them, makes a QT space for someone else.

I got an email from Shawna. She says that Granny will have to go through QT before she goes anywhere. That's the latest I got late last night.
But maybe my facility could be better used on a mare that doesn't need QT. Those under "at risk" don't need QT, do they?
And just what is the status of all those mares on the "at risk" page? It seems like they have been there for a long time. When does their time run out? Anybody know?
