Established as a rescue in 2005, we provide a safe environment for equines that have endured starvation, neglect and physical abuse. Each horse receives medical attention and daily positive human contact. We strive to rehabilitate each horse in the hopes that we can locate responsible, caring and loving homes. For those horses unable to be adopted they will live out the remainder of their lives at the HyTyme. Our goal is to give each horse the opportunity at a second chance at life, never having to endure starvation, neglect or abuse ever again. We do this because of our love of these magnificent animals. We are in the process of filing for our 501c3, non-profit status so that we can expand our facilities to better care for those who have had little or no care. So many of the horses that come to our rescue are the product of poor training and ignorance rather than cruelty. Many of them come around quickly through the gentle touch and love of our volunteers. We work at reprogramming the negative with positive. During rehabilitation we work to be sure that the horse handles safely. Before they are placed for adoption all horses must be able to tie safely, lead well, stand for farrier work and grooming, and trailer. Ongoing gentling and training continues until the horses are adopted out. We work closely with law enforcement, BLM, and local vets in locating good foster homes, or place the horses on the ranch until a qualified adopter is located. We are always accepting volunteers willing to groom equine, clean stalls, and help around the ranch. great news for both Hytyme and perhaps Norma Jean...she is lovely! Miss Norma Jean is still available, she is not quite a husband horse like we need, but with some more training she will make someone a beautiful girl. Jim thinks she may have some Fresian in her.

News at HyTyme: Norma Jean has been adopted by a very special family and will be living in Eugene, OR. Also a team of Perchrons rescued from Shiloh Acres in Colorado has been placed. Watch for them in Oregon/ WA parades pulling a restored covered wagon respresenting HTER. We are really pleased to have placed this pair together as they had been together for several years. Then they were dumped and separated at a feedlot in Colorado. But thanks to Amber at Shiloh Acres who alerted us, Caboose and Angel were reunited, and are now able to do what they know best once again as a team.

We have bulletins now at HyTyme with current events, so I thought I would post them here so you guys can read whats the latest happenings as well.
Good Morning HyTyme Volunteers: We are going to start having bulletins to keep all the volunteers "in the know" about things happening with the horses and abreast of little events that will be going on. This is the first.
First off I want to introduce Evelyn Duran, she and her family have been volunteering at HyTyme and have been doing great with the horses and clean up. Evelyn just passed her nursing exam and is a full fledged nurse now (CONGRATS!!) and she has offered to take over as HyTyme's Volunteer Director!! She has an email address so any of the volunteers current or future can reach her directly. hytymevolunteer@yahoo.com She will also be handling the twice monthly new volunteer orientations!! Thank you so much Evelyn!!
As you walk into the oldies barn you will notice we now have new bulletin boards. There is a board for "volunteer jobs" and for "horses in training" and "Vet and Farrier" this will help us all stay involved in what is going on. Keep an eye on the boards for notes. For those volunteers who are experienced riders, I would like to get together with each of you and we can work out a "project" horse for you to work with, we have horses in line to be worked, so I just need to match you up. Reply to theosplaceonline@yahoo.com and I will get it together with you.
Thank you all so much for your hard work and dedication!! We really appreciate each and every one of you!!!

Hey there HyTyme- ers!! LOL!!
Weekly Bulletin: Lots of progress going on here at HyTyme for you all to hear about.
First off, our fabulous volunteer Becca is looking for grants for HyTyme and working on that, she has found several that might be in our category, so that is coming together nicely!! So Go Becca!! Also, I wanted to say that Becca and her project horse Hope are doing great, Becca has decided to work on Hope's groundwork and catching her in the field and she is doing excellent, she is spending less time trying to catch her and Hope's confidence is building. Great job Becca!! Want to welcome Amy on board, Amy is Annika and Mr. Goodbar's mom, she lives in California but is very experienced with "long distance" horse rescue and the need for our presence on the Internet for exposure, she will also be working on grants. Amy is a well seasoned horse person and rescuer, so she will be an asset to HyTyme!! Welcome Amy!!
Congrats to Evelyn on the volunteer orientations, they had some great volunteers this week and we are all really pleased!! Also, there is some brainstorming going on for how to improve some things and that will be great!!! YAY Evelyn!!
NEED HELP: Trade show season is coming up, so if anyone wants to work on look-books of the horses and flyer printing please let me know. I would also like to print flyers to hang at local vets and feed stores. We also need stall plaques we can take to each show advertising the rescue.
Work in progress: Well we have been having some projects that are going on so everyone check that out! Jim has been removing concrete from the arena area and you will notice a HUGE pile of dirt...that is the base for our arena!! YIPPEEE so work is happening. A huge semi load of vinyl fencing got dropped off for new fences....another YIPPEEEE! So there are some building projects currently going on which is great. We cannot thank the volunteers enough, the more things that get done by volunteers the more Jim is free to do other projects, so thank you so much for your help with this.
On the horse front: Keep an eye on the bulletin boards in the barn for notes and info!! We had a new farrier come out this week, his name is Don, he is a natural hoof farrier. He is a very nice guy, gentle with the horses and very knowledgeable. His wife came along and she is super nice as well! He is trimming some of the oldies and getting their feet in good shape. So thank you Don for your hard work and dedication to good feet!!! We are working on other farriers coming out as well to help, that way we can keep the horses on a rotating schedule.
Vaccines are here, so we need to find a day that we can have many volunteers come out for the horses to get their annual vaccines and deworming prior to winter. Keep an eye out for the date if you want to help. I am working on pics of all the horses so the volunteers can identify them and also medical / farrier records, so keep an eye out for that.
Adrienne and I are working on the website updating so never fear it will get done. I have sent Adrienne new pics and descriptions so soon all the ads and the website will be the same, we will be removing some of the old pics as our horses have changed in appearence. We are also taking new pics of some of the horses doing their new skills!
On the training front: Sweet Tart is doing great in her training. She has excellent ground manners, she can lunge and she can be caught in the field very easily. Celeste is in the pens and having a brush up, she would like you to believe she is not halter broke, but we all know Mo already did that. She is doing great with her groundwork, we are working on desensitizing. If you come out and have young horse experience please spend some time with her, giving treats, loving and walking her around, she needs the attention and soon she will be just like Sweet Tart! Abby, Izzy, Elegance and Boss are next in line for halter breaking and groundwork, we are just petting and loving and making them used to touch. Izzy seems to be the next one that will be ready for the halter.
I still need riders so if you are a rider, email me at Theosplaceonline@yahoo.com so I can set you up with a project horse. We are planning on utilizing the Mt Hood Equestrian Center (10 Min's away) and will be taking horses to some open/ schooling shows for more exposure & experience, so if you would like to do that you need a project horse.
Thank you all so much for your help and the horses thank you too!!

Hey there!!! Time for the HyTyme Bulletin for this week. 8/22/07 I want so send a HUGE shout out to Evelyn, Stephany, Amber and their crew this weekend. I cannot believe how GREAT the barn looks! The hard work you all did really makes the place shine and it is so organized! Thank you so much that is just what we needed! I keep on saying "our volunteers are the best volunteers in the world!" Also, we have a board with pictures of everyone, it is a who's who board and Evelyn will need your picture if you are a volunteer! We are working on horses pics in the barn to for easy identification! You will notice when you come out that we have new fences going up to replace some of the old fences, this is going to look so nice we are very excited about it! The inside of the hay barn is also going to get new wood and get all fixed up so that is going to be excellent as well! Next on the project block is the concrete removal in the arena area. Bryan is going to come and replace the gate at the pasture, he just has to set a new post first. Our great volunteer Bridget has offered to make look-books, flyers and such for the trade shows (trade show season is right around the corner!). Thank you Bridget!!! EXCITING NEWS!! We are working with a farrier and he is going to become our regular farrier, the horses are all trimmed now and will be on a rotating schedule!! Good feet = a good horse. We are so excited about this and we couldn't ask for a better farrier to help us! We now have a MySpace page for Hytyme, check it out : www.myspace.com/hytymeequinerescue Check out our new Hytyme video on the front page of our website: www.hytymeequinerescue.net Any message board volunteers....if you like to talk rescue horses feel free to join the rescue horse message board we all talk on, it brings together all kinds of horse rescues and all kinds of people, lots of great info. Check it out : rescuesonly.proboards59.com/index.cgi#intro On the horse front: Honey and Fifi are ready to find new homes! These 2 girls could really use their own person so we decided they are ready to start their search. Fifi needs some extra attention so if volunteers can make sure to take her out and give her some loves and grain that would be great, she is lonely. Sweet Tart has been placed with our very own Lisa and Shelby!!! We are very excited about this new team, they are all doing great together. On the training front: After Baby Delilah is weaned she is going to hang out at Mo's and learn some manners.....this will be an excellent opportunity for Delilah!!! YAY Mo!!! Celeste has been in and out doing some training, she is a work in progress. Hattie and Merry are both doing groundwork to strengthen their bond with their person and learn some manners, they are doing excellent! Oslo and I are riding regularly and are doing great on the ground as well as under saddle. Becca will be back from vacation soon and resume her training with her project horse Hope. Anyone who would like a project horse or to work with a specific horse needs will need to meet with myself prior. We need to make sure the skill level matches the horse. I need riders for: Honey Malissa Kara Chanel (must be experienced with green horses) If you would like to make one of these gals your project horse please email me, these are the only ones ready to ride now. Riders must wears helmets, there are helmets located in the barn. BIG thanks to all of you for your hard work and dedication!!!! You are all awesome! Ashley HyTyme Communications Remember..... HyTyme Bulletin 8/30/07 Helloooooo HyTyme-ers!! Well the theme of the week has been "winter is coming, winter is coming!!" It is that time of year when the kids go back to school and you can feel the impending winter chill in the air. So it is time to make our winter plans. Right now we are all about cleaning and organizing. Several of the volunteers are working hard with Don to make sure all the horses feet are in tip-top shape! Thank you so much Don!!! Volunteers keep an eye on the boards in the barn for new notes and such. Check out the new fences they are looking great. When the back hoe comes back we have a team of concrete diggers ready to remove the concrete in the arena area so we can get to work on that. We are figuring with the team of them it should go pretty quick. Then we can lay down the base dirt. So we are having progress all the time!!! We have more horses to adopt out before winter so we really need to get that word of mouth flowing about these guys and get them adopted before winter is really here. If any of you are new to horse rescue it goes in cycles. Spring and summer are big horse adopting months as people are looking for projects and getting new horses. Fall and winter are slow for horses and you inevitably get more horses since people are dumping the horses that they do not want to winter over or the horses that didn't preform well during the show season. Here are the horses to talk up now that are ready for adoption (check out the website for their description): Fifi Hope Dreamer & DallasVelvet Vanilla Bean Honey Chanel Izzy Ada Recent adoptions: Malissa - she will be moving on Friday Abby - Mo's son is adopting her Sweet Tart (now named Val) New Arrivals to be evaluated for adoption: Shanico - Appy QH mare Rimrock - Draft cross Amigo - Appy Chestnut TB mare (not sure of her name) Mo and I are doing some work today, evaluating horses and taking pics under saddle so we can get the website updated and get some of the horses adopted. On the training front: Mo is done training Ada so she will be coming back and Mo will be taking Baby Delilah to her house for some gentling and baby time with her foals. Ada is just about ready for adoption. Mo is then going to evaluate Mommy horse and see what she knows, after we know the results of that we can see what avenue would be best for her adoption. Lisa and I are still working with the fillies. Lisa has done a GREAT JOB with Val and now is moving on to Celeste and Velvet for more continued groundwork. Our plan is to get Mo on Velvet very soon to get her going under saddle. Izzy is the next to be halter broke. Contact me if you would like a project horse. I am getting tack ready so we will have plenty for people who are riding. Current projects: Cary - Chanel Becca - Hope Shelby - Kara If anyone wants Honey please email me and let me know...she needs a friend she is so bored! I also need people to take on horses not being ridden as projects so they get one on one as well!! In the news: This Saturday at 11am is Groundwork Clinic with Mo!!! Volunteers come and brush up your skills and learn some new things, this will be great for everyone! Mo is a great teacher so this is a great opportunity!! Lisa and I are getting ready to start our own 4-H group for the kids to keep them busy and that will keep our horses out there and being ridden and adopted!! Great experience for all the kids!! Contact Lisa or I for more info. Evelyn is doing GREAT with the new volunteers, the orientations are going great and she is really getting all the volunteers settled in and in the know!! Great work Eve!!! Amber, Eve and Lisa are still organizing and he place is shapin' up! Great work!!! We have a volunteer box for people to log the hours they work....we need this for grants so please log your hours!!! Well we are doing great and growing and changing. Jim, Sherry and I cannot thank all of you enough for your hard work and dedication. Our volunteers are the best.....it shows in the faces of our horses!!! Thank you all for your support! Hellllloooooo HyTyme-ers!!! Well we have had an exciting week and it will only get more exciting by the time it is done. Everyone remember Sunday we could really use your help as we are having horse vaccination day and grooming day!! This Sunday at 11am come and help with the horses and then when we are done we will be having a BBQ, if you would like to bring a side dish or dessert feel free (not required, just if you feel like it). Last week Sherry and I met with our volunteer Bridget she is a graphic designer, she is designing a HyTyme brochure, logo and look books for the upcoming trade shows & pet fairs. They are going to be great!! (Thank you so much Bridget) We are hoping to get a team of volunteers together who like to be in the public and would like to man a booth at the trade shows and pet fairs to spread the word about the great things going on at HyTyme and show off our horses! If you would like to help or be the chairperson for this committee email me at Hytymevolunteer@yahoo.com . We are also working on the "Sponsor A Horse Program" for the permanent resident horses, people can make donations to a specific horse and be that horses "star", so keep an eye out for that shortly. We are working out a wish list of things we need at HyTyme for operations and horse care, that people may donate, we hope to get more public support for these things. The public support we have gotten so far is excellent and we thank all of our current donors! If you have ideas to boost donations, grants or horse adoptions please contact Ashley, Jim or Sherry we are trying to get some new ideas. We need some help with feeding so if you are in the area and can help AM or PM please email Jim at Jim@htequinerescue.com to let him know what you can do. Jim has so many emails to answer and all the feeding duties (and all the other duties) we need to get him some help. Any ideas are appreciated. On The Training Front: Big thanks to Sherry (of Sherry and Rachel) because of her tireless efforts petting Vanilla Bean and getting her to come to someone other than Jim, Mo was able to get a halter on her and bring her up for her training! Great Job Sherry and Mo!!! It was totally unexpected and we were all astounded (she was acting a little lame) so Mo decided to catch her to check her out, she was so ready to come in because of all the trust she is beginning to have in he people here and her curiosity about the other horses in training! We are so happy to have this little gal deciding this is a good thing!! A note about the Fillies: Sometimes we all know that horses can be hard to catch in a pasture situation. The fillies are at a critical time in their training, if they figure out now that people will give up when they can't catch them their training will go out the window. If you decide to spend time with the fillies and you do not feel comfortable standing in the pasture as long as it takes, then it is fine to just go out and give them treats and petting, that is training as well. If you want to catch one....be prepared to stay out there as long as it takes to catch one. In the words of the great Clinton Anderson "If you go about a job like you only have 15 minutes it will likely take all day.....if you go about a job like you have all day it will likely take 15 minutes." Horses currently in training: Fillies Vanilla Bean Chanel Rimrock Amigo On the horse front: Rimrock has graduated to the big pasture, he is learning to be a good guy in the pasture and now that Oslo is not out there it hopefully will work out. Ashley and family are very happy that Finn is home from training. You can see him and Oslo living in their pasture together near the hay barn. Go say Hi to Finn he loves visitors, Oslo is busy pouting cause he is not with the ladies. (Please keep in mind Finn is still capable of some studly behavior (we was gelded in Feb. 2007) so keeping the mares a safe distance is a good idea.) Lyric is going to be HyTyme's official lesson horse so she will not be for sale. Coal is doing excellent building the confidence of the kids for their riding lessons, he is great!! Don will be coming out every Tuesday (about 11am) to get everyone's feet in shape. If you have any time on Tuesdays to volunteer please come out, we always need holders for Don. Honey left for her new home in Calif. Congrats to Honey and her new family!!! In an effort to get ready for winter we are going to be moving some horses around to different pastures so they can get used to them before the rains start. Please bare in mind that although we prefer horses not to get into squabbles it is the nature of the herd for them to establish a pecking order, pasture horses will get nicks & scratches from time to time. They have to establish the order to live in harmony together, we have to let them work it out even though we would like to intervene to avoid this, no one likes their horse to have marks but it is part of pasture life. If you are concerned about a horse in the pasture by all means please let Jim know. We have to lessen the number in the oldies pasture, the oldies are getting pushed out and there is less room in there and it is the most costly pasture to feed. So please only oldies in the oldies pasture. Concrete removal has started in the arena area!! Yippeeee! We are getting closer! Organizing and such is still happening (thank you to Eve, Sherry and their crew!) the barn area looks great with the rubber matts!!! Great job!! Medical records should be ready to use by Sunday Vaccine Day! We cannot thank our volunteers enough! You are all the best at what each of you brings to HyTyme, our volunteers are the GREATEST!!! Best Wishes and see you Sunday!! Ashley HyTyme Communications

Helllooooo HyTymers!! Well the onset of winter is upon us and it is time to do our last preparations for winter. Rain, rain & more rain is in our future and with rain comes mud. Horses in Oregon rain what a thrill! Some of the oldies have been blanketed since they are already feeling the cold. These horses have to regularly be brought out of the pasture and groomed and have their blankets checked. Please make an effort to work on these horses. Please limit any contact you have with the 2 quarantine horses Spendy and Cash and if you do go in to clean, follow the QT procedures posted in the barn. Both horses have little manners so watch out for them and ask Mo for the best way to address their manners while you are in there cleaning. With the onset of winter Mo should be out quite a bit as she is off work. With the rain we are working to get a spot under the arena cover made for the round pen, please bare with us while that happens. Lessons will happen as weather permits until then. If you have questions about your lessons please contact Ashley. VOLUNTEER BONUS QUESTION??? *What do you do if a horse comes at you with its ears pinned threatening to bite? A) Say "oh how sweet" and stand there. B) Walk or run away. C) Swing your hangs up in the air and scare them away. D) Let them run you over. * See the end of the bulletin for the answer! Just a reminder ALL project horses have to be approved by Mo or myself. We have to make sure the persons skill level matches the horse they are working with. If the skill level does not match it can cause the horse to develop bad habits or can cause injury to the person working with them. We do not want anyone to get hurt so please make sure to talk to Mo or myself. CURRENT PROJECT HORSES:
Hope- Becca Abby- Mo Izzy - Mo Elegance - Mo Celeste- Mo Vanilla Bean - Sheri FiFi- Rachel Rimrock - Ashley / Mo Velvet- Ashley Shannon - Cary Young Christy - Adrienne / Amanda Lyric - Amanda Iris - Sherry Elliott Coal - Jonah & other kids Braveheart - Sharon? Olivia - Jim Drafts - Jim HORSES NEEDING TO BE PROJECTS: Mascarade Annika Mr. Goodbar Smarty Diedra Cameo Penny Dallas Dreamer Chip Tara Old Christy (must be experienced with green horses) Boss Cash - after QT Spendy - after QT When we get the arena / round pen issue handled these horses will need riders (YOU must be checked out by Mo or myself as a rider first ) - Kara ( beginner - intermediate) Amigo - (experienced only - see Mo) Chanel - (experienced only - see Mo) Dakota - (experienced only - see Mo) With the winter fast coming up fast and our herd of horses moving into the tight confines of their winter quarters here is a good piece if info for us to bear in mind:
HORSE HERD DYNAMICS IN ACTION by marv~~ I was watching a group of horses eating some hay they had just been fed. One pushy youngster came up to help himself to one of the other horses hay. This bothered the other horse who pinned his ears, snaked his neck out, and bared his teeth at the youngster. The youngster kept coming up to the pile of hay, so the horse lunged out and bit the youngster on the side of the neck. This disturbed me so I asked the horse why he was so aggressive. He said, "I wasn't being aggressive. I gave him plenty of warning. He still came up so I exercised my authority and used enough force to move him out of my space. The next time he tries it I will give him another warning and he will probably move along." I told him that I thought the behavior was unacceptable and was too harsh. He replied, "See that other horse over there with all the bites on him? I don't want to end up like that. I am the alpha horse and the leader of this herd." This snippet contains the essence of getting along with horses. We need to realize that horses are horses and live in a horse oriented mindset that is the result of pre-historic inbred genetic social interaction. The horse is genetically programmed to react in specific ways to specif actions. Horses understand horses and accept ANYTHING that happens to them in the confines of herd dynamics. The problems come when we try to change the horse into a humanoid and we get caught up in trying to deal with a horse on a person to person basis. ** Answer to the Volunteer Bonus Question.... C ) Swing your hands up, take a step towards them, shoosh them or talk loud and scare them away. In herd dynamics this horse is giving you a warning " Stay away or I will make you go away" but what this horse is not banking on is......you are the alpha! When you scare them off their warning you are saying "I am the lead mare and YOU will listen to me, YOU go!" When you make the hooves move YOU are in charge and rarely if you do it right will this horse challenge you again, they just take the warning from you and remember it and live by it. The worst thing you can do is move away from the horse when they give you a warning, they are showing you disrespect and if you move from it they are in charge. Actually, the horse that is following is always much happier in their eyes then the leader, being a leader in a horse herd is a hard job and most horses are quite content to follow the leader and be happy eating and resting. So make them happy....be the leader. Have a great week and thank you all for your support and dedication to the horses!!! Ashley HyTyme Communications

Hi Hytymers!!!
Spring is just around the corner and we have some great news for Hytyme!! Horses are fat and happy and ready for the warmer weather. Thanks to everyone that endured the wet and muddy weather this winter for the horses!! Hands On Horses Expo was a Hytyme success! We really got our name out there and our horses looked great! Gideon was very impressive and Shannon looked wonderful and they both got lots of exposure in the clinics! Thank you to everyone that volunteered their time at the expo!! Great news for Hytyme - We would like to introduce Cheryl Rhodes Hytyme's new resident trainer! Cheryl has tons of great horse experience and will be training and evaluating horses for us! Currently she is working on getting the fillies trained and ready for adoption. Cheryl is out most days during the week so the fillies are getting worked with daily!! This is awesome! Say HI to Cheryl next time you see her!
ON THE TRAINING FRONT: Horses are currently under evaluation, this means Cheryl will asses each horse up for adoption and then we will arrive at a fair price for that horse based on experience, training and ability. Since the horses are under evaluation the horses will be listed as TBD (to be determined) for their adoption price until they are evaluated. Currently no horses are to be ridden until they are evaluated and the riders are evaluated by Cheryl. So if you would like to be evaluated please email Jim and he can set it up for you. In the mean time all the horses need time spent with them for clean up and each horse LOVES individual attention so we are focusing on getting each one out and spending quality time with them. Ads will be posted for each horse as they are evaluated. Spring is the time when we need to get our name out there as people are looking for their project horses. Currently Cheryl is working with Ada, Abby, Izzy & Velvet, getting them trained and ready for adoption. Don is working on getting feet done and cleaning up feet after winter, he comes out on Sundays and if you can help hold horses for him let Jim know. Thank you Don for getting all our kids feet into good working order! We are currently working on stripping the stalls in the oldies barn, they need a good clean up after the winter months. So please if you have time, even 1 wheelbarrow worth picked and hauled by each person will make it easier, so if you can help out please do!
ON THE VOLUNTEER FRONT: Evelyn is starting her new volunteer orientations again, so keep an eye out for new people and make them feel welcome when they come out to help us!!! If you are using Hytyme's tack please treat this equipment as you would your own. We all know tack is very expensive and should be kept in nice working order to prevent injury to horse and rider! Saddles should be wiped down and set back up on end for storage. Bridles should be wiped down and hung up for storage. English saddles should have the stirrups run up after use and saddle pads should be stored upside down so they can air out and dry. Halters and leads should be hung up after use neatly and all grooming equipment and buckets should be put back in the barn!! Lets keep our barn looking tidy! New Hytyme Rule: NO Hard Hat, NO Heels, NO riding!! We have to adopt this rule and live by it for insurance purposes - NO exceptions!
ON THE CONSTRUCTION FRONT: Still moving concrete for the arena, but it is getting less and less. New parts came in for the tractor (finally!) so that will help! Jim has been working hard on this project so thanks to Jim for getting us closer to a great arena!!! Horses will be moved around soon and we will be able to use Marquis paddock for an arena, if you can help Jim with some fencing so we can get this project done...please email him! We will also need fencing volunteers for the new vinyl fences that will line the road so if you can help with that let Jim know as well.
ON THE MEDICAL FRONT: Ashley is still vaccinating new horses and will be doing this on Sunday, if you are out and can help catch horses for them to get their vaccines please let her know. Thank you for the help!! We have some horses that have rain rot after a very wet winter, so as they come in for grooming, we have rain rot treatment to put on them, it will clear up in spring when it is not so wet, so keep an eye out for any horses that need treatment. All the brushes need to be disinfected on a regular basis to cut done on fungus and bacteria that can live on the brushes. So if you have time to do this please do. They need to be placed in a bucket full of water with a cap full of bleach and then rinsed and dried. Feeding buckets & water troughs also need to be cleaned on a regular basis and scrubbed out so please help with this when you can.
FUTURE PROJECTS: Hytyme will have a booth April 19-20 at the NW Companion Pet Fair @ the Portland Expo Center, if you can help out at the booth please let Ashley know. Spring Clean Day for the Horses & BBQ is in the works and we will let you know the date. We will be having some clinics this summer and the dates are to be determined still, but keep an eye out for these awesome ways to learn more about horses!
A SAD GOODBYE ~ Our volunteer Rachel is moving this week and we will miss her dearly, she has been such a great help to the rescue and the horses have gotten so much attention from her. We wish Rachel all the best in her future endeavors and a safe trip! Thank you to everyone for their hard work and dedication!! Our horses let our volunteers know all the time how special they are....you can see it on their faces!!! Our volunteers are the best!!
Best Wishes, Ashley

Hey HyTyme-ers!! Spring is finally upon us!! Yay! Horses are ready to shed out and get moving onto to sunshine and happy days! Well the first order of business is...Next weekend is the NW Companion Pet Fair, it is April 19-20th and we will have a HyTyme Booth there to spread the word about HyTyme and all of our awesome horses. If you would like to come and volunteer for the booth please let Ashley or Sherry E. know ASAP. It is a fun Pet Fair lots of people and activities, you can even bring you own "well behaved" pet on a leash. In the works is the Annual HyTyme Grooming Day, we have people that we know or groups come out and help us with one day of grooming, picture taking and BBQ. We are deciding on a day now. BIG thank you from Jim and Sherry to everyone who helped run HyTyme while they were away for the dog show, so thanks so much!! Sheri L. and Don are doing a great job catching up all the horses on their trims! Great Job you 2!!! *** ALERT!!! **** We need current pics of horses available for adoption!!! If you groom up a horse please take a pic if you have a camera or usually Jim has his camera so ask him to take a pic! Make sure they are groomed (no mud) and looking slick and pics that have a person pictured with the horse look great as well!! Get your pic taken with a horse today! We need pics of Patch, Chino, Ada, Abby, Izzy, Velvet, Sky & Snickers the most! Send them into Ashley when you get them so I can use them for advertising and Adrienne can put them on the website. HyTyme Steering Committee met a couple weeks ago and discussed some options for things we need to do in the future, such as restructuring the volunteer base, getting horses Adoption Workers, construction, jobs to be done and fundraising. So look out for changes in the future. ON THE CONSTRUCTION FRONT: BIG CONGRATS and THANKS!!! Cheryl and Jim have been double teaming the arena work!!! The concrete is almost all moved!! YIPPEEEE and a BIG thanks for the new gravel in the driveway, it is sooooooo nice! Great job! ON THE VOLUNTEER FRONT: Please remember to sign in on the Volunteer sign in sheet located in the barn on the wall. We need to log our hours for those grants! Also we got our insurance approved so that means following the rules 100%!!! If you are approved to ride you must have a 1 inch heel on your shoe and a hardhat at all times while riding (NO EXCEPTIONS!) The safety manual is being typed up so look out for the safety manual for volunteers soon! If you need to be evaluated for riding please contact Cheryl. HORSES ON THE MOVE: Finn moved to his new home, he is doing great and is very happy living on the Christmas Tree Farm, Congrats to Finn's new family!!! Oslo moved to his new barn, it is about 17 mins away from my house so I can see him almost daily. Mac has decided this is the best thing since sliced bread and has taken over "the ladies" in Oslo's absence! We have several horses who are being looked at right now for possible adoptions, keep your hooves crossed! ON THE MEDICAL FRONT: Horse records have been updated in the binder in the barn, if you have questions about a horse being dewormed or vaccinated please check their listing in the binder. Mac went to the vet and got his nose worked on, he has an old break, from before we got him, in his nose that was causing the swelling. The vet cleaned it out and hopefully it will not return, if it does the vet says it is not a problem for Mac. Hobbit is now a gelding, he went to the vet and got gelded a couple weeks ago.....CONGRATS Hobbit!! ON THE TRAINING FRONT: Cheryl is working with Sheri L to evaluate all the horses up for adoption. This is great to get an expert opinion of where they are at training wise. Each horse will be updated after they are evaluated. Great job you 2!!! PUTTING A BUG IN YOUR EAR! Becca and Ashley are in the planning stages for a big fundraiser for HyTyme which will include a night of music, food and a silent auction, to be held this summer. If you know of any items or services who would like to donate to our silent auction please help us get that going, all donations are tax deductible!! So please contact us for further info! Well that is all for now, thank you to everyone for the hard work and dedication to the horses, our horses are the happy and well loved, it shows on their faces and the faces of our awesome volunteers!!! Best Wishes, Ashley
