Whaaa, my boy has a cough, so he is being started on a broad spectrum antibiotic! Poor thing. I know Deb is looking after him, but it is so hard with him so far away.

I know what you mean. When Cash (CBER Juipter) had a bad cough I felt hepless he was at Debs also and I'm in CA. She did a great job and I had him in 31 days. Hope he gets better soon. Tina

d**n. Dazzler is limping some still, we may have to do an x-ray and see what is going on. Deb says he is thinner than she would like, and is putting him on senior feed. The vet will check teeth when he examines him and let me know what is going on there. Poor kid.

Poor guy. I think the Senior is a good idea. I hope his limp will clear up soon. Is he getting any bute?

Yes, Deb is giving him bute. I haven't been able to reach her to find out what went on when the vet came out. I guess the truck Thursday had everyone pretty occupied. I will try again today. The vet's office was closed both times I called (doesn't anyone keep regular hours up there?), so I am climbing the walls about now.

Deb says his cough is much better, and that he is no longer limping noticeably. Still waiting to hear something from the !@#$%^&*~! vet about his visit out there. He was to have assessed his teeth as well as pulled blood for Coggins and done the health certificate. If I call my vet here, they are on the phone within 4 hours, even if they are swamped. I call this place, and they tell me they will have to get back to me. Been 2 days. SCREAM!!!!!!!!

Okay, everything is ready, Dazzy is coming home THIS SUNDAY!!! Gsdmom is bringing him most the way home, we are meeting her about 90 minutes west of us and bringing him the rest of the way. He will have the paddock to himself for a while until we get some weight on him and the other two get used to him. Pal is still at the trainer, and may not get to see him for another week, but I think Sierra will be happy to have company again. The vet put down his exact age by the year, month, and day, so it seems he is registered, but I don't know if it is possible to get his papers. I don't even know his registered name, so I can't look it up. Doesn't really matter any way, he is coming home, and that is all I want.

TWO......MORE.......DAYS......please send Valium!! I am very concerned that this long trip will be hard on his injured leg. He has a vet appointment here on Oct. 4, so I will know if there is anything long term going on with him then. Meanwhile, Deb thinks he needs at least 75 pounds put on him, he also sprays when he pees (large bean?), needs his teeth floated, and still has a bit of a runny nose...d**n feedlot crud. So, I will have another week of fretting after he gets here before the vet can give him the once over.

Dazzler is on his way, sometime late this afternoon we will be meeting Kathy. We are just waiting for the phone call that she is 2 hours out, and we will hit the road. Stupid CAL Ranch Store was still all messed up today, but we finally found what we needed, so we are ready to go. Also got another invoice from Deb, farrier, senior grain, and penicillin, $78 more beside the QT. Still needs shots, teeth, and a sheath cleaning. I still have to find a good source of glucosamine for him, he is at that age. If anyone has product suggestions, let me know. It is raining like crazy here today, so I am hoping all goes well on the road. Kathy says he is a BIG boy....

We are leaving in 1/2 hour to go pick up Dazzy from the transport...NERVOUS!!! The paddock fence didn't quite get finished to my satisfaction. Husband didn't raise the gates yet, and there is still a hole in the side of the run in. d**n men, can't trust them to finish anything. Guess I will start on those things when I get off work tomorrow. Wish I had the day off, but Brian will be around to keep an eye on him. Gotta run, am taking camera, hope there is enough light left when we meet Kathy for photos.

Home at last. Poor Dazzy. Rack of bones. Hips, ribs, backbone, all prominent. The lot photos don't show him nearly as thin as he is. He has sores on his head like rub marks from halters, and his sheath is a mess. Right rear pastern is very swollen. Gave him bute and Mana Pro Senior mixed with corn oil and 1/4 bale of hay. He went right to work on it. He moves okay, only a little off on the foot, as bad as it looks I would have expected him to be limping. Brian nearly cried when he saw him. Lordy, he is a tall one, though. When all filled out, he is going to look like something. The before and afters on him are going to be pretty dramatic. That vet appointment can't come fast enough, though.

Tomorrow, I promise! Too dark when we picked him up. He is a mud horse right now. Decided to roll in a great big puddle (been dumping rain today). He couldn't roll in the dry, straw filled run in, oh no. Mud puddle. He is going to be one of those you can't keep clean. Also, stamped his feet at the gate. Wanted to go out into the pasture, and made it known. His head is nicely made, but definately larger than my current kids. Good thing we bought that new halter, the two medium ones I have here would not have fit him. Great big bones, he is going to be huge when he fills out. I have to measure for a blanket tomorrow, too. We have nothing that will fit him.

Leisurely damned eater. Takes him several hours to get through his grain and hay. Just takes his time, takes little walks, takes little naps. No wonder he is skinny. If there was even one other horse in with him, I am sure they would have eaten the bulk of his food for him. He does not come running when he sees hay, he just saunters over when he gets to it. He is going to drive me nuts trying to get weight on him. I need ideas for high calorie foods that he will actually eat quickly. Might be the teeth that is causing some of this, I won't know until the 4th when the vet sees him. He definitely has some sharp points in there. His coat is quite long, but I suspect that has to do with lack of nutrition and being underweight more than anything else.

Here is the link to my Webshots album. Please be warned that these are not happy photos. This horse is in seriously poor condition. good-times.webshots.com/album/560695638NmwyVx?start=12Modified to add that most of the photos on the first page of this album are his feedlot photos. The others are the ones I took today. He arrived last night from quarantine. The only health issue other than the kick that was reported to me was a mild cough, which he has shown no signs of here. I have no idea what happened to him.
