I just brought home a little filly, the free one in Tacoma , and I have decided that Pip just doesn't fit her. So I need your help!!! This little girl needs a new name, since now she is starting a new life here. I am still amazed at this girls heart, even though she has been through hell, she still just wants to be around you and get all the love she can. She really is a back pocket type of girl. Seems to me that she has had a lot of time spent with her, she has great manners, picks up feet, clips, loads, bathes, stands tied, lounges, you name it! I was also told that she might be green broke to ride, but with her so young we are going to wait a while to see that one for ourselves.

Wow, that poor baby! What the heck caused those burns? And what kind of evil-doer would put a saddle on that kind of injury? I'm simply stunned, but so delighted that someone on "our board" got her and will be giving her safe haven. Thank you for swooping her up!

She looks like a Milky Way to me... like a caramel candy bar, with some chocolate on the edges... maybe like a caramel sundae...

Cara is Italian for Heart. Yes, a really strong heart name sounds like just the ticket.

Do you suppose that is rain scald on her back? What kind of horse is she supposed to be? Did you shave her or did the former owner?

Here is the whole story on her. She was brought to a lady in Tacoma. We will call her "G" G said that she had her for a little over a month, doing everything she could, clipped her to make sure that there wasn't any skin issues,( I think this is crazy, it is cold out there!!) and so forth. Had her feet done, wormed her, saddled her up and lounged her. Then, 2 weeks later, she went to a clinic for the weekend with a friend, and a boarder at G's barn saw that Pip had a couple bite marks from the other horses (Pip is the underdog) so she thought that she would "treat" her injuries with some black tar like substance. So when G came home on that Sunday, she noticed that Pip's skin was boiling up, oozing, and such and freaked out. Not to meantion that not only 3 weeks earlier her hubby left her, and left her with all the bills and such~! G did everything she could do to keep Pip from getting infections, she bathed her, brushed her out, everything. I don't blame G for needing her gone, it wasn't her fault that all this happened. But no, they did not saddle her like this. That was before this happened. But here is a little more about " Pip" herself She is 2 1/2 years old, about 14.2hh (big for a youngin!) and I was told pure Quarterhorse. She has a great build on her, nice feet, and manners to die for!! She is an odd color, can't really tell what exactly to call her color, but this is my best shot: bay/sorrelish with Dark chestnut/ black mane and tail. Lots of chrome on her, she is going to be a headturner when she is all filled out and the hair grows back!! Here is another pic that my friend emailed to me that she took. This will give you a better idea of her. I thought it looked like Rain scald too at first, but you can distinctly see "pouring" marks where the stuff had run down her sides. i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh291/calgazr07/0424081327a1.jpg

So here are some that I found that might fit her:
Kyah- means beautiful place Amani- means wish, asperation, hope Anika- means Favor or grace Celeste- means Heavenly Arianna- means utterly pure
And the one that my daughter likes (and Pip seems to respond to) Arabella (bella for short) - meaning beautifull Tehya- means precious

Arabella. . .great name! Sounds like she thinks so, too. Better to have something she responds to rather than what you think it should be.

2 Flakes local Grass hay ( I saw it and was wondering what that crap was!) each DAY!! wet Cob Rice bran and vitamins.
Seems to me that something was missing here, whatcha all think??

On photobucket, click on the thumbnail of the photo. That'll bring you to the larger version of the photo. Above it, click on resize. For a medium size, choose "forum or bulletin board", and for a small size, choose the "email or website" option, I think that's what it's called, I'm going off the top of my head.
After it resizes, on the right you'll see a box with four different codes. The bottom one, I think it's an img code, but it's the bottom one, is the one you need. Copy that code into your RO post. That code is what will show up as a photo here on the RO Board.

Thanks Em!! I will do that next time. I am going to get pictures weekly of her, that way everyone can see her progress. I have a feeling she is going to bounce back fast. She just has so much spirit in her, such a will to be well again!

I'm so excited/happy for both of you! I can't wait to see photos of her as you work your magic. I'm sure she knows she's safe. Horses are so sensitive and pick up on the vibes around them. I think we give off "safe vibes" they pick up on. With Cloud, just in knowing he would be fed daily and routinely, a huge burden lifted off his shoulders. When they feel safe and secure, you can see it in the new way they hold themselves. It really is miraculous. Just so happy for both of you. Thank you for saving this worthy, beautiful horse. Em Thanks Em!! I will do that next time. I am going to get pictures weekly of her, that way everyone can see her progress. I have a feeling she is going to bounce back fast. I have her on just hay right now, I started giving her a little grain, and was going to build her up to some other things that I love to use, but she got the liquid runs real fast. So we have her just on hay ( and lots of it) and she is going through about 5 flakes a day. She acts like she has never had any good hay before. She is always excited to see you, whinnies everytime I go outside, and has been talking to my boys across the street. I am going to go out and check the pasture and see if she has solid poo today, and if she does I am going to give her about a handfull of grain, and hopefully we can keep the runs away~~

I am the Queen of the Runs (lol, that sounds pretty, huh?) after Cloud. Probiotics -- I used probios, picked it up from the feed store. 1/2 a tube a day did the trick. Bran mashes -- 1/2 to 3/4 of a bucket of bran and I boiled the water I added -- it helps break down the mash for the horse with less horse-effort. To that I added about a cup and a 1/2 of apple sauce. I made it soupy for the extra liquids since liquid is lost in the diarrhea. I refed on grass hay and a little alfalfa, but alfalfa can give the runs too in some horses. Lastly, grains can give some of the worst runs, so it may be better to give grains later after rehab. I am by no means an expert, but the above is the vet-supervised refeeding with Cloud and my other rescues, who all came to me needing refeeding. The bran mashes were amazing at solidifying Cloud's manure, and Cloud *loved* them. Bringing them to him each evening and hanging out with him while he ate also became a nice bonding ritual. In case it helps.
