WE HAVE A BABY!!!!!!!
I checked her about 11:30 and she was eating, full bag but nothing dripping. I massaged her back and rump a bit, let her stay out with Symphony and Jewel and went to bed.
Woke up at 3 and and went to check the mustang yearlings but looked into the horse yard and only saw 2 horses eating, looked around and saw Hayden over by the front fence and then the silhouette of a foal that disappeared into Haydens shadow!
It's dark and I even tried taking pictures but ?? I THINK it's a colt but we'll have to go back out with a light or get them to move closer to the house.
Baby was up and dry, shuffling walk so far, in at the bar but I can;t see if he's latching on or not!
Come on Daylight!!!!!
We found placenta and sack about 15 feet away, it looked ok but I put it in a bucket and I'll take a better look in a bit.
I think it's a dun only because the legs are darker then I would expect for a red baby.. but again need more light to tell. It DEFIANTLY has a dorsal.. Wide and DARK! No way it's counter shading!

Well the little man is feeling better after an enema yesterday. He had a lot of really hard chunks in there. This morning found two little squishy soft ones and he has a messy rump (Hayden likes to help him but I guess if I didn't have fingers and opposable thumbs... there but for the grace of GOD go I! ) I have called Angi 100 times freaking about hernias, poop, pee, cord re~bleeding, heat, sheath, and a zillion other things. She now understands WHY I don't breed horses!! lol Dean I almost called you when his cord was bleeding again when we did the enema. I wasn't sure if we bumped it or it was him straining but I've never heard of it starting again after so many hours. I was scared and couldn't reach Angi the first time I called.. I mean dang she was only in church, no reason to be without her phone when I have a new baby right? So what if it was a steady drip and not a gusher? He's our BABY! I am out this morning finishing installing his misters. I bought them telling myself Sym would need them come July, not expecting Dandy to arrive in the middle of a heat wave! I also have to run to the vets to get his shots, and pick up more mare and foal. We just love his attitude! He is so friendly and Sym keeps going over to check on him. She nickers to him and he answers her back! Poor things going to have 2 moms bossing him around! She can't get enough of him but Hayden gets irritated if she actually tries to touch him and pins her ears. lol Yesterday she turned her butt at Sym, and Sym reached over and bit her butt as if to say WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? but then moved away to give Hayden some space. We have decided if Hayden is going to be kicking then they can't be together. She kept knocking him when she would turn yesterday but they seem to have worked that out this morning.

He has figured out how to lope and buck. He is filling out, and was pretty PO'd about his shots. We found some of his favorite scritchin' spots and he met our neighbor Emma who LOVES horses. Dad had spotted the baby but didn't dare tell Emma until we came to get her.. She would have driven him crazy until she got to see him.

I hope his umbilical cord is fine, if it continues to bleed or does not dry up right, it could be patent urachias(sp). It is a condition where the urine path does not reroute to the ureathra properly after birth.
PS. I am a safety freak, so please watch out for that roll of cyclone fencing in the corner of the field. Foals have a habit of finding any dangerous obstacle to hurt themselves on. Especially when they are running willy-nilly about.

I've done my own amount of freaking. His cord is fine and only leaked when we did the enema. I talked to the vet yesterday and told them what happened and that I redipped it when that happened, and they said I could dip it as many times as I want! He got a shot of pen yesterday as well as his tetanus shots, and mom is getting SMZs. I already had an appointment for Sassy and Tiffy to get teeth checked tomorrow. I told Ron, Symphony was getting HUGE and maybe we should have done a palp or ultrasound he said.. Well if it's twins she'll probably abort at 10 months but... You feed good and it's probably just that! He is mostly in a 20'X36' pen with a covered stall on one end, and went out into the yard for a few minutes. That is the piece of fence we changed from Chainlink to Non climb and I was going to use some of it to rewrap my drag (which is also in the big yard) I trust the big horses to avoid it but know I need to pull both of them out of the yard now that the baby is here. The big horses don't run anywhere near that corner. It's right next to the neighbors mailbox, and the drive in gate so of course that is where they have decided to poop! They just mosey over there to poo and then mosey away. All running is done towards the far end of the yard. Symphony is in charge and she sets all the rules. NO ONE dares to even walk ahead of her unless she is moving them! Babies however.. I wanted to drag one more time before I did that. I am also going to replace the section of fence between mine and the neighbors yard because the fencing is sagging. I already bought the new toprail but want to ask the neighbor if he wants to go to 6 foot fence, we have to change out the posts. (he has Drafties and a 5' fence looks SO small next to them!) I hope his umbilical cord is fine, if it continues to bleed or does not dry up right, it could be patent urachias(sp).

We have an 'unexpected' foal that color at our barn.......but at about this age, her dorsal stripe went wavy.......she had a dark zig-zag all the way down her back....it was TOO cute. Her dam was sold because she didn't 'take' last spring..........obviously they didn't check well enough. She's nicely bred- now the old owners want her back!!!! Like heck!!!
