I am still talking to the gal that has the Belgian Stallion, he has not been bought by anyone yet, there is a possibility that he may go back to auction next month if she can't find a buyer.
I have talked to my vet and they said they would geld him for 200-300$.
I am talking to Jim about us boarding him with Jim.
I haven't dealt with a stallion in about 15 years, I rescued nice easy geldings because I didn't want any trouble. BUT, I feel for this guy and have been thinking about him 24/7 worried he would get into the wrong hands or back to auction.
OK YOU GUYS.... talk me out of it! Right now before I end up with a belgian stallion.

I don’t want you talk you out of it, but go look at that boy before you decide, make sure there are (two testacies) to feel before you buy him. If you can't feel or see them, there could be more to the story, that could mean more $$ for the vet procedures. Just go in with wide open eyes... he's very nice looking boy. I do say that he's a looker. I hope he does work out for you and he get a nice forever home...

I would go get that Belgian Stallion and geld him myself if I could, A Belgian is my favorite draft, and someday I will have my sweet natured big hunk of a Belgian boy. Some Day..... Did you know that Siegfried and Roy have a huge Belgian boy! I love them.... You are not going to get a great deal like that anytime soon. Plus you would be saving him from an uncertain future. Isn't this a rescue board? Go rescue I say!!!

which way do you really want us to push you? I am trying to figure out if I am totally looney for wanting to do this or not. ;D Maybe we should do a vote....Looney or not looney!! LOL Yes there are 2 testicles ( I asked that right off the bat, considering we charge bucks at the vet for a cryptorchid cat, I would be afraid to see how much a cryptorchid horse is!!)

I have e-mailed her also. She is desperate and willing to transport him all the way here (4 hrs) to get rid of him.
Get him! Geld him and I will put 90 days training on him at NO charge if he needs it!!!
He is at high risk!

If your thinking about him 24/7, there must be a reason. If you don't get him, you may very well kick yourself in b-tt afterwards. It sounds like your going to have all the support you need to deal with any issues that may arise. It sounds like you have little to lose, but so much to gain.

Just waiting to hear from Jim to see if we can board him there while he is gelded and such. If we can then it is a go since the hubby is already on board with it (not hard since he is a draft lover).
Keep your fingers crossed!

If hubby is on board.. what in the world are you waiting for? A lightening strike from God? Whenever my hubby agrees that another would be okay, I am out the door with checkbook in hand! :-)
Also, I have had 2 belgians and one belgian cross. They are sweet. All are now in super new homes.
We want pictures. You probably told his story somewhere else. Is there a link to it? This sounds familiar to me for some reason...
Good luck. You do have a wealth of resources here if you need them. :-)
MTA: That first sentence (once reread) sounds b**chy. I don't mean it that way. I was being serious on the content if not the dumb delivery. Sorry if it sounds harsh. I was trying to be playful.

It is no different with us, any other rescue, or anyone considering getting a horse or adding another one to what they already have. Know your limits and stick to them. Getting a horse just because you are worried about where he may end up is not a good reason. Unfortunately there are many horses that will end up in bad situations. We can only help those that we are capable of. To over burden ourselves for any reason does an injustice to the horses we are able to help. This may sound harsh but the reality is that we and most other rescues turn away many horses that need help but to take them all would overwhelm our capabilities in no time. If you have the time, space, money, and expertise to handle him then by all means get him.

Well guys it was a great try, me and the gal were all set up, but Jim doesn't have anywhere open for me to board a stallion, he is all full. I totally apprieciate him thinking about it though. He has to much Boy horse hormones at his place right now. So unless I can find a place to board him until after he is gelded, then it is a no-go. Sad but I guess not in the cards.

Well, lets think about this ... what if we all start looking and calling around for a stall.... I am sure if we do some leg work we can find you something for him.. on a temp basis.. How far can he be from you ..

Pick him up on Monday and take him DIRECTLY to the vet. They can keep him overnight, and by that time, you will have found a place to keep him temporarily.

It sounded like PEC would help out - can Dean take on a soon-to-be-gelded Belgian? Then he could go to Jim's after his 90 days of training................and the seller said she would haul him to Dean's....................

I do not know the gals situation. I e-mailed her and asked if she could board him where he is at now if he was gelded right away. That way it's MUCH easier to find boarding for a gelding!

I talked to the gal this evening and she said that she will hold him a couple days for us to find him a place to go, as all the other offers for him fell through. I am emailing a person that Dean sent over to see if they can Board (thank you Dean!! ) So lets see what happens.
