oh wow Penny, she does look just about as bad as Miss Sunday. Keeping fingers crossed that she will do as well as Molly. Thanks for the pictures, gives me some hope.
Miss Sunday was standing out in the sun when I got home, seeming to snooze, so I went over to check on her, and as soon as I walked in the barn, she came in looking for food. Put another flake of Grass hay in, and she dove right in it. Going back out here in a bit, checking her for sand, and giving her another good brushing.

I'm sorry, I have to disagree Jtjedi. My vet does an AMAZING and meticulous job on teeth. He has done teeth for 20++ years and is EXCELLENT!!! I am sure hocks are a lot of her problem with not wanting to get up/down etc. Poor baby, glad you are taking her!!!

Sadly, it's the mothers who pay when they are malnourished like this. I have seen many foals come out just fine with their mothers being a 1 or less.......sigh****

Miss Sunday got another good brushing today, and she loves it, stood there with her eyes closed, then she followed me all over, I went in the barn, so did she, I went outside, she came outside to see what I was doing. I took her for a walk down the street, she wasn't to fond of the trash in my neighbours yard down the street and snorted at it and really perked up about it. She does have a nice strong walk, no lameness at all. She just rests her backlegs weird when she is standing still. Now she is back in her stall, munching away on mush and hay. I might be wrong, but I think she is definitely perked up today.

hungry and eating a ton is a Great sign, at least it isn't a problem with ability to eat... now, just to find a balance of what it takes to get weight on her.
I think the former owner said she had issues in her hocks from epiphysitis last year, so perhaps that is just getting worse?
It sure can't help to be in starvation....

She is easy to love on ;D I'm so happy I can help. I have never taken care of a horse that was this skinny, and I'm very happy to be able to make a little difference in her life. Today she almost knocked the bucket of food out of my hands to get to the feed bin, she was so excited about the mush.

oh, and she was very excited about nibbling on some fresh grass for a few minutes on our walk. I had to pull her away, or we would still be standing there. She definitely enjoyed getting out and moving a bit.

It is so gratifying to see them blossom under good care... yet in the same moment so sad to know it wasn't some illness that caused this, it was just plain horrid caretaking... she deserved better. I can't say thanks enough...

How long does it take to create a Monster? In Miss Sunday's case not very long ;D I went to check on her after work, and she was just complaining, no food in her feeder (got home a bit late due to having to do my taxes). So here she is complaining the whole time, until I got more hay in her bin. What a hoot. She soaked up the brushing, and then we went for another walk. That girl can move out.... She got to nibble on some grass again, which she was very happy about. And then came the warm Mush, oooohhhhh boy, she would not stop talking! She seems so much perkier and alert than Monday night when she came here. She is just a doll.

At least this girl now gets a good chance at making it. I haven't seen her trying to lay down. But she definitely seems to have a lot of life left in her mentally!

I spoke to the stallion owner of the one she is bred to... what a bad situation... she leased the stallion to this gal, but the gal flaked on getting required insurance, etc... so the lease was cancelled, when lady sends shipper to get her stallion, he isn't there! Gal says stallion is in OREGON... and was injurred! and won't give lady address or more info... Lady had gone twice with Sherrif to get him, but Sherrif is not much help... and she can't get on to property to look for her stallion. Gal reported to someone via an internet post that she GELDED him and sold him! argh... Lady tells me she knew about the Sunday 2, and thinks that gal never paid for her, which is why there is no papers!!!!! what a mess... of course now lady is very worried that her stallion is in same condition as this mare... and I don't blame her. I'm so glad you got her out... but I do worry about the others there... but what do you do?

what if animal control would go out and check if her other horses are in as bad condition? That is a totally messed up situation. Wonder if Sunday's previous owner still has the papers.

I was thinking of that... what do you think? should we call them? it is pretty good evidence seeing Sunday that things weren't ALL right!

Any way to contact the registry and find her last owner? Maybe things aren't on the up and up with her, either.

I would think that if the gal never paid for Sunday, the previous owner might want (or have a legal right) to take her back?? I don't understand why the owner of the stallion can't press charges. If they don't have a valid contract, the lady doesn't have a legal right to keep the horse - does she? It always amazes me that the law authorities won't act upon these types of issues. Horses are not legally owned by the gal and she isn't taking care of them properly - yet she is allowed to keep them. And the legal owner doesn't have a right to take her horse back?

I don't know, I emailed with the stallion owner today and asked if she had filed a police report for stealing her horse.... no response yet. I guess I can renew my APHA membership and get the 'plus' model and gain access to her former owners names...

OK, feel better, called APHA and the woman who gave us the horse actually 'owns' her (as per her registration papers) at least she isn't stolen... whew.

I wonder if it is just a case of being persistent with the authorities? I'm sure they have more "pressing" cases to tend to, stolen horses might not be on top of their list, until you pester them ALL THE TIME.
Beth, I wonder if anybody on the SOS board is an APHA member and can look this up?

If her horse is missing and the sherrif won't get off his big fat butt to look into this - call the local media. Tell them there is a stolen horse situation and that you've tried going through the proper channels....... well, she should anyway.
Poor baby.....Corinne - thanks for taking this on. You've still got the mustangs too, don't you?

Glad to know she isn't stolen. Yeah, maybe media might be a good thing to do. If she needs help, if she's not local I can help.
Yep Stacie, Mustangs are still here. I do need to get rid of them, just can't afford to feed 7.

Here are a few new pictures from our Sunday girl from today. I told her she had to eat a lot to have the energy for her long trip home tomorrow. And eating she did ;D Here is one from our walk down the street, she thought the horses in the field were very interesting. Here she is with the 2 Mustangs looking on in the back And here she is enjoying the grass
