The time has come for me to speak up on the subject of Rosy. I STILL HAVE Rosy! You know, the mare behind TEAM Rosy? I have had her for over a year. I have doctored her through her mysterious lameness that she came with. She is now sound with a years rest. I have ridden her, ponied her and taken her through the Steve Rother clinic. I have fed her enormous amounts of food and paid to have her out on pasture all summer so she could come back to proper weight. I have faithfully had her feet done by the best barefoot trimmer in Washington State. I have wormed her, vaccinated her and bought her her very own blanket. I paid well over $300 to have her very messed up mouth done by Dr. Vetter. Her teeth were so bad she could hardly chew! Having this done was what finally brought her up to weight. Does it sound like I own this horse? Well, I don't! She was and still is a team effort here on the Rescues Only Board. But somehow I am the only one on this team! I am not asking for money, although that would be nice. But I am asking for you, ALL OF YOU, to help me find this horse a home! I need you all to market this horse like crazy. Place ads for her everywhere and anywhere, tell your friends and neighbors, put her on Facebook, Twitter, equine.com, dreamhorse.com. Put up flyers, send out emails. With all the good work you have done through the years, I'm sure you can help me find this one measly little horse a home? Come on you guys help me out! I can't afford to feed a horse that is not mine through ANOTHER winter. I should not have to. She was brought to me for training and was dumped. If one of you wants to take your turn caring for Rosy, I would be happy to pass her on to the next team member. Thank you!

Wow, how did you come to get her?
Maybe FUGLY could do a short promo on Rosy. She has a ton of exposure on her site.
This, unfortunatly is what happens alot after a rescue. People are all about patting themselves on the back, then they move on to another rescure, all the while forgetting about the responsibility of the last horse. After all, it is safe, right?

Could you post her info for use? Age, height, training and anything else so we can help get the word out about her. I'm sorry to see you have had no help with her.

Jamie, can you post a little 'blurb' about her? What she is good at, what level of rider she should have, what does she enjoy (trails, arena, etc). I will get her posted on the SAFER website here in Sonoma County, and would be happy to do a Craigslist ad in the San Francisco Bay area as well. I just need a little info on her. Looking back at the beginning of this thread, it looks like she'd be about 7 years old now, right? And how big is she?
And yes, I'm sure WE CAN find a home for this one not so measly horse!

Lors - Rosy was taken by Jamie after she (Rosy) was evaluated by another clinician and deemed hopeless. Jamie evaluated her and didn't agree, so she went to Jamie for training.
I was the one who asked her to take Rosy.
At the time, our intention was to put 90 days on Rosy so she'd be more marketable - and so we'd find out what her bugs were. (She was saved from a bullet because she'd had a couple of freak-outs and her prior owner thought she was dangerous.) At the time I even signed a training contract with Jamie even though I also, had posted all the way through this thread that I could not take on another horse. She was saved off a craigslist ad about the time of the PEC meltdown and the "team" along with the board was in a state of turmoil. I felt sorry for her, and I didn't want her to drop through the cracks as a result. And, I had (and have) total confidence in Jamie's ability to suss out her quirks so we could give her a better shot at a good forever home. The alternative was to put her down, which Jamie and I did discuss. btw, Jamie wasn't even originally part of Team Rosy - she stepped up for her at my request.
Anyway, that's not exactly how it unfolded. Rosy is a hard keeper and when she got to Jamie's she was still very thin. In addition, she was cribbing madly. Jamie wisely wanted to put some weight on her, and let her relax, before putting her into regular work. Then, Rosy started having some weird intermittent lameness issues, which also prevented regular work.
I finally met Rosy this past March and found her to be a very sweet mare. She was still a little gimpy at that stage, but very willing to do what you asked of her. My sense of her was that she needs a quiet, patient person and she will blossom. But, Jamie knows her better so she can give a more complete picture.
I traced her history, and finally reached her breeder. According to her, she rode Rosy on trails as part of her training. That suprised me since that is not normally part of a horses' "pre-track" training. She said Rosy had always been sweet, and was surprised that there had been any issues with her. She'd been told that Rosy had shipped to slaughter, and was very happy to hear she was alive. (but not interested in taking her back)
Rosy is tall - easily 16 hands, but narrow. She's 7 years old. Dark bay/Brown. Registered with the Jockey Club. She raced at Emerald Downs and Portland Meadows and had a decent race record. She was a come-from-behind winner, so I imagine she has good acceleration, which may translate into being a good jumper (?)
I'm not sure I'd characterize her as being "dumped" but Jamie has definitely gotten stuck with her. And she has done right by Rosy, giving her a chance to relax and settle in with some basic training/assessment. Unfortunately, although Rosy was ready for formal training this past summer, my work imploded in March - and many of you know - I've been struggling to hold on to the horses I *do* own! Paying for training - on any horse - was no longer an option. Jamie and I talked about it late spring, and she ended up putting her out on pasture with Champ (you might remember him from CBER days -another horse she got stuck with).
Jamie will have to give the specifics about her current skills, level of rider, etc since I only met her that once (and didn't ride her). But, from what little I did see, I think Rosy would do well with a confident person with (at least) intermediate skills who would like to take on a project. It would be really nice to get her with someone who wants a horse to keep since Rosy has been bounced around so much in her short life, but at this point, a good home with someone who can and will commit to her.
Jamie, if you can send me the email I sent a bit ago with the info about her (and Champ, if you'd like) I can get them listed on Petfinder and Adopt-A-Pet.
Thanks for all you've done for her!

Just bringing this back up in hopes that we can get a brief description of Rosie's skills, needs etc. I'd be happy to post on BAEN and Craigslist down here, as well as the SAFER website. Does she have an adoption fee or is she on gift contract?

Thanks all for your help. I really do need to get her moved on.
Caly described her well. You can start with her descriptions in the posts above. Caly actually has more information on her than I do other than what I wrote.
I plan on getting some under saddle pictures as it is sunny this week. I'll see if I can give her a bath and some mane pulling.

An update on Rosy..
She and I just had a lovely ride in the arena. I tried to get pictures but it gets dark so darn early these days!!
Rosy is broke. She knows all the things a horse who is broke should know. She leg yields, turns on the haunches, forehand and backs. She goes in a lovely frame at trot and canter and does not fall in on her circles. She has a very soft mouth and is light in the bridle. She is very bendy and non-resistant. She does not have any of the typical off-the-track-habits.
As all TB's she has more energy than most horses, but her level of excitement is very minimal and very controllable. She is NOT herd bound. I tested that as well.
I believe that she would do well with an intermediate/advanced rider. She would make a lovely hunter or low level dressage horse. Just a trail horse would suit her as well.
She is very respectful on the ground and has excellent ground manners. She drops her head for the bridle and is not cinchy.
I have not seen her get marish or grouchy while in heat.
She stands perfectly for the farrier and a bath, as all good race horses do. I have clipped her ears, bridle path, legs and face. You can do this without a halter. No problems with worming or shots.
She has attended the Steve Rother groundwork clinic twice. Once with me and once with Caly. She was excellent. No issues with any of the obstacles. Very willing and easy to work with.
She did have a trailer loading issue when I got her. Not any more. She loads very well and does not get worked up or paw while in there.
This horse is young and has the rest of her life ahead of her. She will make a terrific partner. She is a sweet mare and is the first to nicker a greeting. She craves and loves attention and brushing.
I can not say anything bad about this horse's personality or behavior. I think she is a very nice mare.
She does wind suck. However, it's only while she is eating. It all but went away when she was out on pasture this summer and I do believe that it is related to stall stress and possibly diet. It will subside with exercise, the proper diet and pasture living.
She is sometimes off in her right front. It's the same intermittent lameness that she has had since she came here. At some point, it would be nice to have the money to do a full work-up on her to know exactly what it is. She is not lame all the time. Just sometimes.
She is current on all vaccines, feet and dental. She is also up to a good weight even for a TB.

Thank you for the excellent write-up Jamie! I sent out 34 emails last night, and got her up on Adopt-A-Pet this morning. I can't figure out Petfinder yet - it uploads from our website whereas I can load from the website or direct with Adopt-A-Pet. Email into my web guy. www.adoptapet.com/pet3044271.htmlI've already received a couple emails back from folks who are loading them onto their websites (or friend's sites) (as well as 2 complaining about the current horse market and "wishing me luck" sigh) IDEAL would be a pasture situation down here (CA) where it's warmer. That way she could be on pasture (to help with the windsucking) and warmer (to help with weight retention). Thank you again Jamie for all you have done for her!

Also submitted a request to have Rosy's dam's info updated on Pedigree Query, since that matters to some people. Who the heck updated her info on that site to show me as owner and her picture (from this thread!) ?

Yea. I posted the recent photos in an ad and I received email stating that she is too thin and she is not getting care she needs...etc, etc.
I politely wrote back...
"Thank you for your concern. Care to donate to her care? Or maybe better take her on and continue her care? <snip> Let me know if you are interested in helping out. You took the time to send me an email, so you probably care enough to help."

Champ and Rosy are coming to California. We've found a wonderful place for them (75 acres of irrigated pasture!) Since they have bonded with each other, they will start out together in a herd of other oldies. Now, Rosy isn't old, but she's sweet and docile and being with the other oldies will be easier on her.
The woman who owns the place is a dressage instructor and runs lessons for people 4 to 80! If Champ and Rosy are bored being lawnmowers, they will get the chance to be fawned on by kids and oldsters.
The referral came from someone we know well and who has very high standards. Piopico and I went and visited and were very pleased with the horses and the owner...and insanely jealous of the pasture!!!
We expect this to be Champ's final home, since he is in his mid-to-late 20's. Rosy, we aren't so sure. She's young, but she has been gimpy on and off. It doesn't seem to be a pain issue - but if it continues she'll be close to pnp4kidz's vets and contacts so we can have a workup done and see what we're really dealing with.
That's all the good news. So, what's the bad?
We need to move them soon. Neither of them are doing well with the cold, wet, Washington weather. Jptjedi is pouring feed in them by the ton, but they really need to get to warmer, better weather.
Jtjedi can get them to Portland. Can we work up a caravan to get them down here? They need to get to watermarkfarm (north of San Franciso) who has agreed to be a drop place. They will actually be living about an hour north of her, but it's a winding, out-of-the-way road. We will all be checking in on them regularly. This is a wonderful retirement home, where they don't have to be 100% retired unless they want to.
Can anyone take a leg and help them get down here?
Thanks!
Caly

do you think they'd donate the ride Icehorse? I am pretty sure there are no funds from Team Rosy at this point... I will offer that if anyone is coming down the I 5 corridor and it would be any easier, they can drop at my house if that helps...

Icey - thank you so much. Also, gratefulknits sent me a pm with a great reference for them as well.
I had a long, long chat with Felicia (Blew By U) tonight, and explained the situation. She called in a favor and got them both a ride next week. As much as I'd LOVE to have a free ride, that's not likely in this day and age, even with a caravan. But, this comes almost as close, I think. He's willing to haul them both for $350. They are not "filling an empty van" - they are taking two paying customer slots - so this is a deal.
And, it's contingent on them getting to Portland to meet him (which Jtjedi already emailed me she could do) and him being met on the 5 (still to work out - maybe at Joe's?). He's got a deadline to meet so can't really bring them in to the bay area, at least not on this trip (and they need to get down here soon per jtjedi.)
I've got two private messages from people offering to help finacially - one covering the coggins/vet stuff; and one helping with transport (but don't know how much - can you post here if you want to out yourself? or else pm me with amount so I can post how much we still have to raise?) Anyone else able to help?

Funds here are nil but if the timing can't be coordinated precisely I can be a layover for a few hours, Blew by U has been here for Icey so maybe they are willing to swing by again if needed? We are 15 min off 5 - Jake would LOVE to drool over their truck and trailer again
