I think part of it was, I didn't deworm him until he had gone through his medications and alot of that ended up being shot through a tube in his mouth. He'll probably be better for you because you didn't torture him with Rx. I would just hold it near him until he stopped fussing. Then praise. Bring it closer until he stopped. Praise. Until, eventually, I was putting it on his lip, in his mouth, etc. without actually squirting it in. It eventually worked that way, but I highly endorse and recommend the "dig the well before you're thirsty" philosophy. ;D modified because endose is not a word.

Hi All, I have been working Sarge everyday in the outdoor ring.Since English is a new discipline for me I feel I can work slowly and help Sarge remember the basics . He really doesn't have much staying power so I am increasing riding time gradually. He is such a good boy and everyone that meets him see's something special in him!!

The special-est thing they see in him is how much you love him.

Hi All, the farrier was out at the barn today and I had made an appt. with him to look at Sarge's feet( consult). Because Lisa took such great care of Sarge's feet the farrier gave him a thumbs up to keep him barefoot at least for now.So, I think farrier shopping is over and I am going with Raliegh Demers (hope it is ok to say his name). Also, you tall horse fans might be interested to know that today when we measured Sarge he stands at over 17 hh. The air is cleaner up there let me tell you.

Hi Penny, I am trying to condition Sarge slowly by riding him of course. A good day for him is about 20- 30 minutes in the outdoor arena. He has a very nice trot, lofty and mostly smooth. I do ride him out on the power line road and I am finding he likes to be out and about. He is alert and aware. His blind eye is not a problem for him. His front leg has healed and is dry (thanks to Lisa). He gets the best care and food from me. I see him everyday and he will walk from the far end of the pasture to greet me. His topline is still boney but give me three months. Folks this horse is amazing. Thanks for asking!!

I really do think this was meant to be from the very beginning, Rocky. It just all fit together too perfectly at the end for him to go anywhere but to you. Did you get to ride this weekend? Any more antics from the boy?

Hi Lisa, Well ,the day of the" incident "I went back and rode him in the arena/ then Chelsie and I free lunged Aria and Sarge. It was thundering hooves.....he can move... His fuzziness is going away and he still looks like he needs pounds so I hesitate to cut back on his Empower. He gets Senior/ Empower/Oil/ Grass and Timothy Hay and is turned out all day on a very low grass pasture. Today, I took him off the property and hand grazed him for an hour. He is starting to build a little muscle. What about Mahan?

Mahan is doing very well. He is mellow and seems happy. He likes to be around other horses, so our riding session this afternoon was interrupted by his desire to head to the other end of the field to find the horses that were out of sight. He couldn't believe I was serious and actually made him turn around and go the way I asked him to in the first place. I can't wait to see Sarge all shed out and healthy. It seems I've seen him shed out but injured/skinny or looking pretty good, but all hairy. I'm excited to see him as he's supposed to be. ;D

When is a Thoroughbred a Standardbred? I am in a quandry, at least five people this week came up and said " What a pretty STANDARDBRED!!!" Please advise..... The mystery continues.....

|

Post by ljbrooks on Mar 23, 2007 22:08:35 GMT -5
Aren't Standardbreds the "pacers"? I haven't seen him pace. Maybe some people just assume bay = Standardbred? I don't think he looks like a Standardbred, personally. His look is way TB to me.
There is no quandry. You look at them like they're nuts and tell them "he's a Thoroughbred, Thank you very much!" :-)
