I don't think I'm going to have to do it. Kaleigh is already rationing her! LOL!
Seriously, K's bag is already getting smaller. I was out there 4 hours on Sunday and only saw Diva take a snack once.

Lily will grow faster than you know. I can't believe how big Diva is! And she's lost her baby-mohawk. Sob!! Pics from Saturday... The "look how big she is" shot. Check out the belly on my hard keeper TB mare (NOT!!). I think Kaleigh is getting a bit miffed that all the pics are of the baby. Doing a little figure-8's to keep her occupied while my friend Scott finished grooming Kaleigh. I'm not hard-tying Diva (I got the message y'all!) so I have to amuse her if she's not being directly worked with. She leads pretty well, although I can see she's resisting me a tad in this pic (the leadline is taut). She's like a really smart child - if you don't keep her mind occupied, she'll occupy it herself - with the attention span of a gnat. Getting ready to move out I'm trying to lead them together myself even when I have someone else along. I'd like to be able to pull them out together and walk them myself, but - together - they are still a little unpredictable. So, we're practising whenever I have "back up". (sorry, a little blurry, I know)

CeCe & Baron, and Karma & Danny were all sent over to the coast today, so Kaleigh and Diva got some new pasture-mates. A mom and baby (Warmblood, so the baby, while 2 months younger, is nearly as tall as Diva!) and another mare. It was kinda sad - the newbies have all been together for awhile so they were hanging out together and Kaleigh and Diva were by themselves.
Of course I'm a little nervous about how everyone is going to settle in. I love the good being in a herd does them, but herd dynamics make me nervous, especially where Mom's and babies are concerned.
As I suspected would happen, Kaleigh is weaning Diva herself. Her bag is quite small and I haven't seen Diva nurse the past couple times I've been out there. I knew she'd do it, I just didn't think it would be so soon. Diva just turned 5 months. She's still a baby!!

See Kaleigh? Here's a picture of you without that (adorable) baby of yours! Diva, mugging for the camera Like mother, like daughter... A friend and I took Kaleigh and Diva for a walk around the ranch. They were, um, pretty good. Well, Diva was good. Kaleigh...sigh.....TB's. But I love them! ;D

Yeah...my "hard keeper" TB! It is dry. Thankfully it's on the ocean side of the hills so it gets the marine air, so it isn't as hot, dry or dusty as it looks in the pics.

Umm, so when is Kaleigh due to foal... ;D LOL! I was going to ask the same thing: are you sure a twin didn't stay behind for a little extra time in the oven? Your girls are just beautiful.

HEY!! She's a nursing mother!!! ;D ;D ;D Jeanne (barn owner) was encouraging me to wean the Diva early. She was concerned about Kaleigh losing too much weight since TB's are known for being hard keepers. (also, she's seen pics of how K was a year ago) Hmm...... Not a problem.....

They look fantastic! Baby is growing well it appears . And honestly - I think I am with your barn manager - Kaleigh is just dropping SOOOOOOO much weight, you better wean that darn baby! LOL jk! I think that the belly is kind of a normal TB thing though. I had a couple of TB mares who had foaled and all would end up with the BELLY! But, once I started working them and whatnot they fitted up and put some muscle on the rest of them and the belly shrunk down. Once she has weaned the baby and is fit-I bet the belly goes away a good deal In my experience, if a mare is holding weight well, I leave baby with mom till around 6 months or so. I find that they do alot better long term and it is really obvious if you look at the ranch yearlings at which ones were left longer come 18-20 months of age sara in WA

Olive, she's big, but she's pure TB. I don't have DNA confirmation yet, but I know who her sire is. He's 17 HH. She's gonna be big. There pictures were taken Sept 30:

Diva is adorable. I love it when they get into that "lets play" mode, and try to get everybody involved. Trevor is so happy when he can run around the pasture with Merlin. He tries to get the older horses to chase him, but they're to lazy.
Kaileigh is looking very gorgeous!!!

Ah! Their fan club is alive and well ;D thank you!! They are looking pretty good! Diva just turned 8 months old this week. Shas been on stall rest for a month. She suffered a minor injury to her stifle while racing/playing with her buddy Cache. We aren't sure what happened...one minute she was fine, the next she was holding her leg up. Scared the **** out of me! X-rays showed nothing damaged, but as a precaution her vet wanted her on complete stall rest. She's b-o-r-e-d to tears. She's being paroled this weekend, so we'll see how she does. She won't have full turn-out - limited space and a boring old adult horse for company to begin. Kaleigh has been enjoying her new-found freedom, so she celebrated by getting a quarter-crack. sigh. It's being/been treated and she's doing well. She's back on pasture 24/7 and is enjoying being out with her buddies. She's on the same pasture as Angel, and it's a small group (6-7 horses) but they're still pretending they don't know each other. Mares For now everyone is staying up there. The house in TN fell out of escrow so the move to WA is delayed. Again. I'm not so optimistic that it'll happen before next summer (if ever!) but we'll see.... Meanwhile we're just hunkered down and I'm working lots of OT. I'll get some pics this weekend and get them posted. My friend Scott just got a new camcorder.....maybe we can figure out how to post on youtube...of Kaleigh.....eating.....LOL! (Still her favorite hobby)

Thank you! And, just in case you think I photoshopped the picture, here's some video of them. They have a "mutual" roll about a minute and a half in. www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6k0TD9jSZ8(Picture quality isn't nearly as good uploaded as it is in the 'puter. Sigh. Guess I'll learn how it works...)
