I wonder if by "Kimmie" they actually mean Kitkat. She was taken back by cber a few months ago and there is some question as to where she really is. I too am concerned about her. If this is the mare they are claiming is a "kicker" and dangerous, I must tell you that both I and Ryan, her original foster/qt and volunteer in this area, did not find that to be the case. She was very well behaved, neither of us had any difficulty in handling her and never saw her kick, and I in fact hauled her to her original adopter who was approved by other cber volunteers at the time. Subsequently she was abandoned at Deans by her original adopter and she stayed there until this year when she was picked up by cber. Cber did not pick her up when she was originally abandoned. If this is not the same horsethey are naming as "Kimmie" then I am not sure who Kimmie is, as there was still a Kimmie at Deans as of last week.

No when it was posted that Kit Cat was with Diane...that was all a lie. Kit Cat was really at Sam's the whole time.

I'M NOT SAYING THAT ANYTHING SHE IS SAYING IS FALSE... I'M SAYING THAT THE MAIN ISSUE ON THIS BOARD IS... OR SHOULD BE... ABOUT SAVING HORSES... NOT AIRING DIRTY LAUNDRY IN EVERYONE ELSE'S FACE. I GO ON HERE TO SEE WHAT HORSES NEED HELP. IF I WANT TO BE SUBJECTED TO A SOAP OPERA I'LL TURN ON THE TV AND WATCH ONE! This is my opinion only...so take it for what its worth. When a rescue has fee's attached to pretty much every single thing regarding the horse in EXTREME amounts..then when questions are asked, they ban people, horses are abused & they look the other way until we shove it down there throats (ccg) among other things...there are more horses losing homes than getting homes because of rescues like CBER one unhappy person tells everyone about there bad experience, a happy one only tells a few that may ask...how many unhappy CBER adopters can you think of...I can think of about 20 off the top of my head. Pushing issues under the carpet & never addressing them harms horses.

Pastel had a home down in Tock's neck of the woods, but Sam nixed it by saying that Pastel had a broken rib and could not travel down to CA and that instead she was going to "adopt" Pastel (who was paid for by donations) and use her as a resale project. I guess she wasn't resaleable so now she is at Wayne's being used as a broodmare... 'cause that's what the world needs, more offspring of horses who apparently were unsaleable.

I volunteered for CBER for several years. I took a couple of breaks and came back when needed. In my time with CBER, I can honestly say that all of the volunteers that I worked with were in it for the horses. Not sure about one who did QT for a whilie and horses ended up in bad shape.... but otherwise....Why the hell else would we do it? I certainly did not receive any monetary incentive for my hard work and stress. Neither did most of the other volunteers. Frankly, most of the volunteers spent 1,000's of dollars on horses they will never see in person. I know, I'm one of them. Most of the volunteers, literally worked a full time 40 hour work week for CBER. They did this to help the horses.
Shelley is a good person, she is not being compensated for this and I'd bet my last dollar that she does not have any sort of "agenda" aside from helping horses. She is a caring person that believes in CBER's mission. She took over the apps director job when I asked her to. I hope that she will never regret it.
I have seen so many wonderful people leave CBER. When Heidi joined the ranks of the former volunteers, I worried. I am not in Washington. I didn't want to believe speculation or conjecture. I wanted the truth, but hey, the truth is hard to come by from such a distance. In fact, it seems hard to come by for those in close quarters as well....
Ashley, Tash, Michelle, Stacy and Jen put in inordinate of hours to this cause. They put their heart and souls into helping these horses through CBER. All of these volunteers will always have my respect. Wendy D is another person that I truly believe is in it for the horses.
The stuff I'm reading here from people that I have worked with at CBER and will always respect ( Heidi, Tash, Jackie, Ashley, Jen....) makes me heartsick. I know you all would not lie and the old excuses from Sam for each incident just don't add up.
I'm glad I volunteered for CBER. I am glad for all the horses that I have helped through that work. I will also always be indebted to CBER for my two beautiful horse Dream and Gypsy. I would not have them in my life it weren't for CBER. Unfortunately, I cannot wholeheartedly endorse CBER as a rescue any longer. It is very sad.
I think Kerry wrote earlier that she has found many horses to help locally. Well, that is where my efforts are focused now too. Still love all you guys though and plan on being on RO a bit more. You guys are still doing great things and helping horses. It's a pleasure to be in your company.

This is all very puzzling to me. I once considered adopting a horse through CYBER, but then I went to my local horse auction and there were so many horses going for $50.00 to kill, that I rescued one there, and now have 3 that I got for free that would have gone to a bad situation. I kind of felt that $500.00 to $1000.00 fora horse plus haul 30$, plus

cONTINUED
Plus QT at 300$, I could help more from my local auction before they ended up in a lot and exposed to viruses, etc.

It is puzzling isn't it?!! Sam/CBER adds on extra fees to the horse's "adoption" fee. Its really quite sad....with that $1000.00 for one horse...could have been 20 horses at that auction if all went for $50.00.... Anyways...glad you made the choice to rescue from the auction....a good choice in my opinion!

Hmmmm, not sure I would say an auction is a good place to find a good horse. Too many drugged up ones for my taste, occaisionally you find a good one thats not sick or crazy. I do agree that the prices charged for the horses is a bit over the top, and the price for QT seems a bit high also. I would love to hear more about these "missing" horses though.

Hmmmm, not sure I would say an auction is a good place to find a good horse. I think what she was saying was that the auction is a good place to rescue horses, not that it is a good place to go buy your next dream horse!

Yeppers....I meant compared to cber...an auction is a good place to RESCUE horses yourself. If you choose to adopt a rescue horse, it would be a good choice to adopt from a reputable rescue!

Things never change. Many of us tried to make needed changes to protect the horses but were shot down, and people wonder why we quit?
Thank you Kristen.

So if I adopted a CBER horse last year you mean to tell me that I secretly donated $150 to Sam? I wish that I would have known. Dont get me wrong you would have to bring an Army to get my CBER horse away from me now, but at the time that money could have been used for his other expenses we had when we brought him home.

i have worked placing adds for CBER for almost a year now. i feel i am at the very least helping the horses, although i feel it is a little odd to pay so much for a horse that cost so little in the first place.

sad but very true. seeing pics of the horses at auction who don't get saved is heartwrenching. Someone should start a rescue for people who want to save a horse but don't want to go to the auction, where they donate some money and have someone go and bid and buy the horses. then give them to the new owners, kind of what AC4H does. I like their idea. The picture I saw of the horse in the killpen at an auction mart with the very nicely braided mane, is etched in my brain. The ones that slip through the cracks and ship right away that no one ever gets to know about is so sad. So many great horses aren't getting that second chance. With winter coming full bore now, the sadness and dispair is going to get worse.

If not more! acarlson1980 stated she went to the feedlot summer and inquired on a horse that CBER had listed, a TB named StringBean...Chuck said he'd sell him for $350.00...CBER had him listed for $650.00!!! And this does not include the qt and hauling...all together he would have been just about $1000.00 So, that is definitely more than a $150.00 mark up...we are talking a $300.00 markup....how nice....and sad part is, StringBean shipped. RIP Stringbean.

what puzzles me is when we went to the feedlot stringbean wasn't listed on cbers website yet. he was about a week later. and for the horses that were suppose to be on the feedlot right now that needed to be saved weren't. so hhmmm. something smells fishy. also there were 3 broadmares there that keep following me around i left crying because there was nothing i could do for them.

Sept 5, 2008, 6:28am, kirsten wrote:Good Morning! We have often wondered if there were other ways to try to help these horses. An idea was brought up on the board....what if we had a fund? A fund that would be used for horses in the "final hour", final hour meaning the last hour before shipping. The fund could be used towards any horses needing more money that could not be raised in time or towards horses that have no hope.
A poll was sent for the fund name, and the name of the fund was created.
Fund Name: HOOFPRINTS ON OUR HEARTS...aka HOOH FUND.
PURPOSE: To be used for the main purpose of helping horses that need more funds that could not be raised in time. And to be used for horses that have home offers but the adopter needs help with funds.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Am I to understand that the HOOH fund is now the same as the general fund and these donations can be used for anything at all? I like the original idea better."
Then Sunlightslady aka Fake President....stated something about how the HOOH fund was started without the BOD's approval. And that it is going to be used for supporting horses pulled.
EXCUSE ME SHELLEY! First of all...when the HOOH fund was created THERE WAS NO BOD!! Second, both Karan and Sam pleaded with me to do a write up for the new fund....I even sent them the purpose and got their approval that it "was awesome" and "please send a mass email about it". So, don't go trying to make up some stupid ass excuse as to why the purpose of the HOOH fund is now changed. I got the go ahead to do it...it was approved. Of course now I regret ever even starting that thread/email as it was just another scam to get more money for Sam. As in her words, "the HOOH fund is just another word for MY general fund."
