However, regardless of how individuals may feel about CBER, what bothers me the most is that 3 really nice horses were loaded in that truck yesterday. Whether it be donations made thru CBER for those who are still willing or showing up with cash in hand for Chuck and not dealing with CBER. This is not a pissing contest! It doesn't matter how the money gets there. 3 innocent victims will loose their lives this week after enduring their final ride from hell. I don't think the horses care where the money is from neither should CBER as long as the horses are safe. That should be the main focus.
You have summed up the tragedy of CBER - thanks to the internet, the faces and stories of horses on Chuck's lot become embedded in our hearts and emotions. Those horses going on the truck rend our hearts - I've often pondered the emotional impact. I still feel it though it has been long since I supported this rescue and since finding out about Meadow and Lavender have made public statements condemning the organization.
Everyday hundreds of sweet horses ship to slaughter - faces as dear as the ones pictured on CBER. There is a torrent of innocent victims. Hundreds of rescues exist that tend the flood of horses that have fallen out of the "industry market". There are literally thousands of ways to save/support horses in need. Thousands of ways that DO NOT INVOLVE doing commerce with a woman who, IMO, has serious ethical gaps in her way of doing business.
I commend the folks here who are moving forward, going to auction, buying horses, making a difference. If people want to buy from Chuck - the way seems open . . . walk in with cash in hand. Clearly there will be no visual profiling of horses - except for what is done through CBER. And with CBER, where do you draw the line? That is different for everyone I guess . . . for me it was finding out that they euthanize by bullet without a vet exam.
So here is my question - do people have to have a "picture" of the horse about to ship to gain the emotional satisfaction of "saving a slaugher bound horse"? Even if this is true - there are numerous rescues out there . . . perhaps even ones that match ethical guidelines such as those described here
www.ddal.org/pdf/horseguidelines.pdfActually, you don't have to look any farther than this BB - there are a host of rescues to support:
