Also, what many do not understand is that many times the vet visit for the health certificate was done at the lot before they left for Sams or other homes. ( Ranger and I met the vet there many times) At that time, many of those horses neither had a snotty nose or an elevated temperature, and therefore were given the certificate based on what was in front of the vet at the time. The vets always said they could only issue based on what they see at the moment, it was up to the QT facility to maintain integrity on whether they then got sick or not prior to the deadline of the certificate. However those held or shipped days later ( the health certs are good for a certain prolonged period) may have then succumbed to it during an incubation period due to exposure at the lot or at facility. I do know personally that the vet at Mapleway always said she could not sign the cert if the horse had a temp or other signs of illness. I was not present or did not have a conversation of the vet they used later, Harfst, so do not know what his criteria are.

If Strangles is not a big deal for you and it's not a big deal for your horses to suffer due to your incompetence, then I hope to hell that I wasn't the one to approve your application to adopt. No worries Caryn, she came along after you had left....
