well, finally, a few minutes to post! we made it thru the entire finals and did NOT fall off! LOL! my goal for the show apparently... I 'was' going to go fast, but Mr Bob Marley had other plans, like bucking... he has a huge anxiety disorder, not sure why... but all season he's been great, even pokey! now this... butt head. we have the closing ceremonies tomorrow, I wont' win anything again, but oh well... my youngest has a chance at a buckle... that is awesome... on her boy Token!!! the one who was going to be euthed on July 1st for navicular! LOL, guess we got the last laugh on this one! ok, here is little miss 'no spots' without a name,. from last night. more when we get home I bet.... hehe... the first view before she even got up... and these are when we got home: the requesite tongue pic cute???

Since I do not know much about Appys, I was wondering this.
I went and looked at the picture of the foals sire. Is he white with brown spots? Was he born that way? Or was he born dark and then went white or grey, leaving the brown spots?
Does little No Spots have grey hairs around her eyes? If so, she may very well change to a grey and have left over spots.
The only babies I have had have both been color changers. Ameer was born chestnut and changed to grey. That is when I learned about the white hair around the eye trick. And Dancer went from charcoal grey to a black.
She is a cutie, but I wish the cam would of been on so we could of seen. Darn it. LOL

so, daddy was a leopard, but he does appear to have started as a blanketed boy. he was bay. so baby is bay (her only choices are bay or black) and no spots, but yes, they can change colors and some of the areas that are now brown can roan (it is not actually graying) and some of the area just 'won't roan' and those are actually spots! amazing... but yea, she prolly HAS some spots, we just can't see them!
and we have a name! she is officially Flashing Moonbeam and we will call her Moon

I've posted pics of the old man before, but here is one from this summer... just looking at my Bob Marley, enjoying his ribbons... If this is his picture and he started out as a bay, they I would say he has the greying factor. Therefore I guess that Flashing Moonbeam could grey out also. It will be interesting to see how she ends up. I find color genetics interesting.

Since I do not know much about Appys, I was wondering this. I went and looked at the picture of the foals sire. Is he white with brown spots? Was he born that way? Or was he born dark and then went white or grey, leaving the brown spots? Appy color is a bit different from paints. Paints are born with whatever color (spots) they are going to get Appys can change suddenly or gradually but they do change. Appys with traditional blankets do often show a blanket when they arrive but the "varnish" and roan Appys can fool you. If they are going to "gray out" they may stay bay for a year or even two or three, then shed out in spring with a blanket or a roan pattern, and they may continue to gray/roan for the next few years. They will have spots of color that were hidden before they went gray. My hubbys old Appy was Bay with a star until he was 3 (They named him Navajo Star) When he was 3 he got a blanket and by the time he was 6 he was a blue roan with dark spots. I had a friend with a blue Appy that got her cheap after she threw 2 solid babies. The older foal colored out at two, and the guy was sorry he sold her. When the second one colored out the next year he tried his best to buy her back! =D

P.S. I think the most recent Appy color tidbit I heard as that the whiter the Appy the more likely you are to get color.
I remember being told once not to breed roan to roan because there is a high absorption rate. I wonder if that is true. Maybe its something like lethal white and the foal can't grow right with 2 roan genes?

I want to be home, so perhaps this afternoon I will get home early enough to let them out... they just got fresh gravel in their paddock so it is clean and flat... I just want to be there to make sure any spots she finds can be fixed immediately... if you know what I mean... BABIES... they find ALL the little pokies... It's a small paddock, but we'll let them try that for a few weeks before they get into a bigger one, as that means they will have a steep hill to go up and down... I don't want baby tumbling down!

We are having some electrical problems at home (like.. half of the house has none!) So we may be down off and on for a while until we can figure out what is causing the problem.
