Hi all! I just heard from Deb today that Angel's face swelled up on one side, and her lymph nodes are swollen! ack!!! they have had 'colds' and are coughing... she started them on Penicillin (well HER), so, we are on 'hold' again... the farrier came again, and did her feet AND his on last monday, and they both did great.... I'm expecting new pics in the next day or two... :-)
It might be nice if we could get some of the yet uncollected funds pulled in soon, to pay the vet... and finger's crossed we'll have shipping over Memorial day too...!!! Kerrie has graciously offered to get them to Bend over that weekend... for just gas money!!! It is 440 miles round trip... so we'll need to get her about $125 for fuel I guesstimate.... maybe more... then I'll drive up to Bend to get them and bring them 'home'!!! I'm still waiting on the cost for the vet.... but if we can be 'ready' with some funds to send this next week... I'd appreciate it! thanks!!!

Oky Doky, here we go! You want me to "look like a Sporthorse" ?? huh??? hmmmm.... thinking about that.... ok, how 'bout if I trot right towards you??? OK fine... you want FASTER??? got it... does this count??? but I don't WANNA go farther away from you! fine then, I won't move at all. humpf. MOM will play with me... watch... I can FLY!!! sure is hard to do such small circles in this pen on this hill... but I'm TRYING!!! OH!!! You want this trotting stuff... just in a LINE??? B-O-R-I-N-G!! and this is WAY more fun!!! Cept... now, I'm tired.... is it nap time??? ok, ONE more time... slower now... Aren't I Purdy? there's my Momma... she's purdy too... and look! I can tip my foot like MOM!!! Now, I had to take a nap, but you can see my new friends... this is Missy... they used to call her Mistletoe... she was pretty shaggy before... but she is getting shorter hair, and growing 'new feet' they say... she is still a pill tho... SUCH a pony!!! and she lives with a tall old lady... they call her Jet, but I don't see why... she's not as fast as "I" am! and over on my others side is this other baby horse like me... he says they call him Shimmer now... huh... OK then... and his other friend... Baron von Beth... he is bossy... but purdy.. but he was scared of that silly white sheet! I don't blame him, it is too small and makes his butt look fat... hehe... That mean lady who ran me around made him put that darn thing on... and off, and on... and off... huh, don't know what THAT was about... but, it sure was fun watching HIM get the run around too!!! he looked tired when they were done... but, they made him wear that thing overnight... he has a rash they call 'hives'... he scratches on EVERYTHING.... Shimmer thought Baron was acting dumb... all that 'big eyes' for nuthing... he prefers to eat. he didn't mind showing Baron how to wear that thingie... then he went right back to dinner... and they FINALLY left us alone!!! so, anyway... just wanted to say 'hi' from down here in hot, dry CA... wishing for rain... can you send us some?

Oh, I also got a good looksie inside poor Angel's mouth up front.. no tatoo... but her mouth is so 'smooshed' I don't think she has many molars... gonna get the vet to verify, but for now, she chows the hay, and, my 'test of all tests..." she can CRUNCH a carrot just fine! hehe, I know... SO scientific!!! LOL

I 'think' the old momma is gonna be fine... I was worried at first... she was SO thin. but, even with monster boy nursing, she is gaining a bit of weight slowly, and has a great appetite. she is happy, nickers for her supper... and actually trots around sometimes! She had her feet done last weekend, and they are really yukky, and she has ring bone, and one really twisted growing front hoof... along with those darned pasterns. But, she is a good girl, and bright and happy. :-)
The little one will get gelded soon, then weaned, then hopefully find a forever home... with someone to do a little training. He will be FANTASTIC.... as he is clearly gentle, willing, and so darned sweet, but NOT trained at all!!! LOL!!! the farrier came, and he is so much more frisky now! He said.. "I don't THINK so!" "WHY do you want my foot??? " " I'll fall down... I will!! I will!!! watch me... see, I WILL!!! "... "ok, well, I won't... but LET GO!!" :-) babies. so, if he is THIS good without any training, imagine what he'll be like with some work! Isn't his color beautiful too? is that called Seal Bay? I love it. His tail has some white/ivory at the edges... very cool....
so... does everyone think he is a TB?

Beth, I look at Angel and she makes me think there is something else in there besides TB (or, heck, maybe no TB at all?) Her head does not look full TB. I am guessing she could be Anglo-Arab, or something gaited? BTW, gaited horses are far more prone to suspensory failure!
She looks great. As does Phoenix. So nice to see them shining. And....wow.....you do have slopes everywhere! No wonder your horses have toplines even when they are retired!!

Post by pnp4kidz on Jun 25, 2007 18:01:44 GMT -5
'slopes', yes... we wear cleats to do meds... hehe... sleep in hammocks. :-) and fear 'liquifaction' makes for nice toplines, and keeps 'em 'legged up' as they say.... my horses have NO excuse for getting 'tired' on a trail ride! LOL! but heck, Angel goes up and down her hill deftly... no encouragement needed! trots up too! I haven't 'seen' gait... but who knows. oh boy, that will make placing him harder maybe... cringing... mta: oh hey! that spot where jet is eating is flat...!!! :-) and 'why' can't it keep MY bottom line smaller? hmmm???

I can vouch for Phoenix....he is one nice baby. Not only well put together, with nice straight legs, but with a super mind, very friendly and people oriented.
Please spread the word amongst yourselves....this guy will be needing a special home with someone with nice big pastures to raise him on. He is going to make a nice dressage or event horse in a few years!

yes he has! not too sure why.. I am not doin' nuthin... they get Orchard Grass with 10% alfalfa, a very nice hay... 3 or 4 flakes twice a day, and a big bowl of Elk Grove Milling pellets (stable mix) with beet pulp, just at night. they are nickering for supper... when it's due.... and they seem to be thriving! I am 'bout ready to geld him, vet has some appointments next week that are open, soon as I find the money, I'll be all over that, then he will be weaned... and ready to find his loving home!

Here ya go, Peg. This week's Angel photos!! She is the darling of the ranch and melts everyone's heart. Her personality blossoms more each day. She is gaining weight and muscle and strength. She is curious and LOVES having the run of the farm, sometimes traveling 5x/day to the far corners of the 20 acre hayfield and back. She must walk 2-3 miles a day. She tends to get into a bit of trouble, so we have had to "horse proof" things more. I just love her, and hug and kiss her every chance I get. Here she is eating with the chickens, and also "raiding" the vegetable garden with her new friend (with the matching dropped fetlocks), Deema. They are really cute together, like an old married couple.

Hello Angel fans!
It has been a while since my last update. Angel is living a happy, happy life here at my home in Santa Rosa and has gained weight and a lot of muscle.
She has the softest coat ---- it feels more like bunny fur than horse hair. She loves wandering the ranch, which she is now able to do 24/7 (it is all set up here for our three elderly/crippled horses to walk around our ranch yard area, which is about 1.5 acres). We found that she does best with constant movement. Angel needs to lay down a lot. Her back legs do very well but she has a lot of knee and ringbone issues up front. She has good days and bad days, but mostly good.
I bought Angel a Bucca rug, an Irish waterproof blanket like a Rambo. She LOVES her blanket and wears it proudly. She gets excited when I put it on her at night (she knows her big bucket of feed will follow).
Angel has the sweetest, most beautiful face and is curious about everything. She is kind and gentle and always interested in whatever project I have going on. She is nice to the children and safe to be around. She loves to go in and out of the stalls that are empty during the day (because horses are turned out). She goes in and cleans the grain tubs and any extra scraps of hay. Everyone here just adores her, boarders and family alike. Our boarders are now used to her walking into the barn while they groom their horse. Angel also likes to stand in the arena while horses are being worked ---- and so far everyone, horse and human alike, are amenable to that. It is really cute to see Angel "observing" a training session from the corner of the arena. It is almost like she is supervising things.
Every day with our girl is such a treat. Thanks to all the people who made it possible for her to go on to a life with so much happiness.
I had her teeth done by the dentist a few weeks ago, and he says she is right around 20 years old. Poor gal has had so many soundness issues to contend with for such a young age, but she has one nice set of choppers!
Katie

I have Phoenix here, he is a yearling, and is just getting ground manners training... he is due for 'brain surgery' now that the weather has cooled and flies are down. He is currently looking for his forever home, or at least a good home who will use him, show him, and take him into the world. He is a very gentle and friendly boy, not one bit studdy, but he will excel in english and jumping I think, as he is tall and stately, and has an edge of 'full of it'. to him... :-) I can see him strutting his stuff in a dressage arena in upper levels, very athletic boy. Anyone ready for a new youngster???

Thanks for the update, Katie. My husband and I hauled Angel the first part of the trip from Yakima to Bend last May. I was so glad she got to rest up at Lisa's before continuing on to CA. She was so thin and seemed almost fragile. It is wonderful to see the pics of her looking so good and hear how loved she is at your place. She's one lucky horse!

Our "Angel" girl's turnout blankie has just not been cutting the mustard.....not quite warm enough for our old girl's bones, and ever so slightly leaky in the rain.
We do patches, waterproofing and all sorts of crazy stuff to keep the 12-year-old Rambos going.....
But yesterday, our Angel girl got herself a brand spankin' new waterproof, breathable medium-weight green turnout blanket, and the look on her face when I strapped this fancy new thing on her was GREAT! Big eyes, followed by lots of sniffing, and finally a kind of "proud" look on her face.
Pictures to come. She steals our hearts on a daily basis. Even my husband's, who grumped when she first came to live here. This morning, she was sleeping in the wood chips next to where his car was parked, and he waited for her to "wake up" before he went to work. I caught him gently clearing leaves and sticks out of her forelock while she was laying down.
We love our girl....she brings so much joy to our farm.
Katie
