Ha, ha, that's funny c-cat! He was pretty tense that morning. It was a big day for him, being away from all his buddies and being out of his comfort zone.

I almost had a heart attack when Jerry told me he was going home to SoCal, not back to Wilton. Now it's up to Barbpurple and Tockita to make the road trip instead.

Yup, that's King!!
The fact that he is traveling around like this says VOLUMES about Jerry Tindell and his work. This horse was SUPER SCARY to handle --- he would just bolt and run you right over for no reason.

Katie,
He was as calm as could be. He went in out of the trailer very easily, stood patiently while tied and when taken for a stroll around the ranch he was totally calm. I never would have guessed he was a problem child!

So, I modified the subject line so I could post an update....
First, I must say that I love the fact that my boy is with Jerry Tindell. There is no doubt in my mind he should be with anyone else at this delicate juncture as he matures.
So, I made it through the first week as he adapted to his new environment. It took him some time to adjust from living in a huge pasture to his own pen. As would be expected, he was off his feed. No problem. He came around and soon was friendly with everyone around him.
Week two: I get a call from Jerry. They had a side trip to the vet because SP stuck his head through the fence and cut his nose on...something! (they searched and don't know what...d**n kids). So, 20 yes 20 stitches later, he is doing fine. Jerry is now calling him Scarface but swears he still has a show career. I haven't seen a picture yet, but apparently the injury is in a place that will get wet as he drinks, so the vet gave him double stitches to ensure they hold. My poor baby...I just want to hug him and I can't.
Barbpurple and Tockita, can either of you go see him in the next few days? I can give you Jerry's cell phone number so you can contact him directly. I just miss my boy and since you two are so close, maybe you can go pet him for me?
I will post the first picture Jerry sent me taken last week. He looks sort of sad, but maybe it's just me projecting my feelings onto him. Ugh... I am too much of a right-brainer...

Poor kid - ya know, when I had to send one of my kids out for training out of state - ?I would send "care" packages from home. for instance - I sent a bag of home made cookies The ones I made at home for him... I also would send down things like a pre-packaged bran mash(all they added was water) and I did send down a recording of our home barn at night so he could here his buddies. (barn owner thought I was nuts - i sent a little tape radio and the tape down - they played it for himand I guess he listened to it really intently and would start to whinny....) SO - I spose I have a seperation problem lol.... But, you could send your kid some kind of little care package..... might make you feel better Sara

Oh that would make me nuts if that happened to R. The young heal up so well, though. It's tough learning the hard way whether you are person or horse. Best wishes to you both for a full recovery and happy training days.

It's amazing what hey can get in to, and how they can hurt themselves..... Just like kids I guess!
I'm sorry you're so far away, I know how that feels, although I'm usually only gone 2 weeks at a time, but I call home EVERY DAY (2x on weekends) to check up on my "kids".
Hope he'll stay out of trouble from now on, giving mom a scare like that....

Aww, I know I've been teasing you about your feelings of SP being so far away, and actually, I completely understand...I have trouble going on vacations and leaving our animals behind, even though they all have each other and are in familiar surroundings. I can't really imagine sending my baby off halfway across the state.

Here he is pre-accident. To me, he looks pretty sad, but this was his first week there. I am having our very own mkgbuegel talk to him this week and let him know he will be fine and I didn't abandon him. Prince Scarface, that's pretty funny Dean!

Hi Jen, so sorry to hear about SP's injury.
Tempo was bitten on his muzzle by another horse across the paddock fence. It was a 5" vertical gash from upper lip up between the nostrils - very visible.
The vet sticthed it up, it healed beautifully and you couldn't even see the scar. No one would ever know he'd been slashed.
Hoping SP's injury heals like Tempo's did.

Jen,
Two words that will help both you and SP: ROAD TRIP
Maybe you can get down and see him. That would cheer him up. Poor guy!

I called Jerry and am going to visit tomorrow morning. He said anytime after 9 his highness should be done with breakfast.
I told him I was a freind of yours, and he said he didn't know you had any friends, lol.
I caught him up on Jill, Lifesavers, and Angi. ;D
So do not worry, I will visit your little man in the morning, and give him some surrogate mommy time.
Looking for my camera...

I remember that face... Baron had that face on the whole first month at CW training.. it made me so sad. I went to see him twice a week or more, and he'd turn his back on me... never poke his head out to say hi or bye... it was hard. then, in month two he came back!!! his perky happy self!!! I was so happy to see him again! and Sir will come around too... poor scarface... sir... pouty face...

Everyone, thank you all so much for your words of support an encouragment. It means so much knowing you are there for us. I appreciate the stories, those help a lot too. I know I am not the first mom to go through this experience, so to learn that others have had similar injuries and experienced pouty babies is helping me more than you know.
